Here's a solution I think is reasonable ..............
QUIT SPENDING MONEY WE DO NOT HAVE!!!!!!!
Sooo we shouldn't have spent a dime and just let everything collapse like we did in 1929?

Hoover created public works projects to try and stimulate the economy post collapse of the stock market. It failed.

Two big things helped along the Great Depression imo. Credit crunch and destruction of international trade.

So far we have addressed our credit crunch with the bank bailouts and we havent resorted to protectionism\isolationism yet.

Just the simple definition, to humor you:

NOUN: 1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy

I pay taxes
Government takes those taxes and gives that money to a private company
Government then takes stake in that private company
Government now effectively controls that company

Hugo Chavez is laughing his ass off over Citi, Fannie, Freddie, and the auto industry right now. It is exactly what he would do.

Edit: This isnt even including Obama's "down payment" on socialist medicine.

Hoover undertook measures that were both late and small because of his ideological opposition to government intervention.

That was post collapse, Obama is trying to be proactive to prevent a total collapse of our economy so we don't have another Great Depression.

I don't think someone who believes in intelligent design should have much to say about ignorance.

I dont get where you think Hoover was like his former boss Coolidge. Hoover was certainly not FDR. But he wasnt a hands off guy either. He saw the power the federal govt could wield in local and state issues.

Yet on the other hand we have you, someone who believes the best explanation for their existence is that their distant relative was probably a rock.

The economy tanked through 32. It wasnt like the week after the stock market crash we hit rock bottom. Either way Hoover increased public works projects, didnt help the credit crunch, and signing that god awful piece of legislation called the smoot hawley tariff act which cut international trade in half.

So far we have managed to learn from history by trying to keep the credit markers liquid and not moving towards protectionism\isolationism. The stimulus bill remains to be seen if it will help.

All those threads about evolution that you've participated in, and you still don't know the difference between evolution and abiogenesis. Poor, poor Duwelon.

Thank you for participating in this thread though, I haven't had a chance to make fun of you for awhile now.

It wasn't even a stimulus bill! It was a liberal dominated congress and president exploiting this crisis to greatly expand government. Government does not create jobs! Almost every single thing government does, it does it poorly, because people aren't motivated as long as they know their gravy train keeps coming.

Mark my words, the stimulus bill will not help in the long run, but some in the media will be quick to include "Obama's stimulus" phrasing in every single piece of good news that comes out in the months and years ahead.

We as a country have been duped, our leaders are exploiting our bad times to push through radical pieces of legislature that wouldn't pass under normal times.

Where did I mention evolution? Oh that's right, I didn't. You're just ascribing more ignorance and putting words into people's posts again.

Well then by all means please enlighten me as to what theory you think I accept that would make me believe I am distantly related to a rock.

Better yet, if you want to continue, why don't you tell me yourself what is not true about your beliefs that you probably came from a rock. We're talking about your beliefs here einstein, not what theories are out there.

So you can't even write a 1 line sentence about what you believe? I believe God made us. Do you believe that you probably came from a rock? Yes/No? Slight variation? This isn't rocket science. Just state what you believe. Apparently that might be too hard for you though.

I already told you. Stop spending money. Get the budget under control. The market is going to have to correct itself. No amount of voodoo money thrown at this situation is going to help it.

empty promises.

let me disect your plan for you.

Stop spending money = market collapse, people lose job

Budget under control = government employee cut, more people lose job

market correct itself = even more people lose job due to big companies fail due to people not spending due to not having jobs .. .the cycle

wonderful idea... next?
