Demilitarized Mortar Tube?

Anyone know if there is a way to get demilitarized mortar launching tubes? I know they sell demil- machine guns, and rocket launchers and such, but I haven't been able to find a mortar tube. If it sounds like an odd request I just think it would be nifty and extremely safe way to shoot fireworks for the 4th of July.

Any ideas?

I checked all the army surplus stores I could find on the internet as well as some mail order catalouges and found nothing. Haven't tried a local army base, but I'm not sure how to go about asking to buy a mortar tube. With all the paranoia lately they might not look kindly on that.

well...have you tried a scrap yard or something like that? you might find something that's about as strong as a mortar tube with less hassle.

I know I can build one. I can and have made stuff out of PVC tube and whatnot, I'd just like something nifty like an actualy mortar tube to launch them out of.

If you know a welder, All you'd need is a 2" or 3" pipe, 3' long with a 65-80 degree angle cut on one of the edges, with a 12"x12" square of steel plate welded to the angled end of the pipe. Add some paint to get the appropriate shade on the side, and you are set.

If you want to go buck wild, have the welder use a pipe with two sides cut 90 degrees, seal off one end, and mount that end to the plate via a bracket.

Also, you will need a monopod or a bipod further down the pipe to hold it in position/look right

Thanks for the good description on how to make one.

However, if I can, I'd like to purchase something authentic as it wouldn't be prone to production mistakes plus it would be fairly portable and extra on the coolness factor.

If you guys have ideas, shoot 'em out.

Production mistakes should be fairly evident immediately, at least mistakes that would be critical to the operation of the mortar as a guide tube for launching fireworks. Also, a authentic mortar might weigh 60lbs total, or it's base alone may weigh 60lbs. Depends on the caliber and model.

I don't know why anyone is even answering this guy. If he had the brains to own/use a mortar in a safe fashion, he would be able to find a surplus tube, or make one himself.

IIRC, a demil-ed mortar tube is usually plugged/capped so as to prevent any object from passing down the length of the tube
