Looking to get some current opinions of how Demigod is.
Came across a coupon that would make the game cost $7.49 on Impluse and am curious if it is worth it at that price and if it still has a fair size community playing, as well as just general views on the game.

Coupon Code for anyone wondering is: DG-4190416
Coupon is good till Feb 18th

Nice, how long does that coupon last?

I might pick it up at that price, and if I don't like it I can write off $7.50 easily enough.

Remember seeing screen of it long ago before it came out and thought it looked real cool. Haven't heard a peep about it though so I assume it's nothing spectacular.

I played it for a few weeks with friends when it came out, usually teaming up against PC on highest difficulty. I never played DOTA so it was a new game style to me and it was really fun. We just got bored of it eventually, no desire to try to get good to play random matches against other people. For that price may as well go for it, just check to make sure there is an active community since a bunch of other DOTA clones are out/coming out.

Demigod had a few cool concepts that expanded the MOBA genre, but it failed it one key area: netcode. It was horrendous to try and play a lag-free game. It also is seriously lacking in terms of selection and variety in comparison to it's competition. DOTA/HoN and LoL have 40+ heroes whereas Demigod had 6. They were split into two categories - your traditional hero who fights directly and then Generals whose abilities focused around buffing up the minions.

The other cool thing it implemented was team upgrades. You could spend the gold you earned not only on items for yourself but various building upgrades. You could make them stronger, attack harder, produce better creeps, etc.

All in all, it had several really good ideas that expanded on the genre from DOTA but slipped up big when it came to providing a satisfying game with variety to keep you enticed a long time.

I liked Demigod and thought I got my 20$ out of it, but it's kind of a travesity what a mess it was. Even after several patches the matching making and stat tracking were completely broken; when you're whole game is based around arena type multiplayer matches those two features are pretty important. Knowing what I do now, I don't think I would have bought it.

The core game is very good imo; it didn't need a bloated selection of heroes.

Demigod also has two new demigods that were released a month or two ago. Demigod population is somewhat small where players are competitive and frequent. If you plan on playing multiplayer be sure to host "noob only" games where as experienced players will instantly kick you from the lobby from having 0 games played. IMO this game is 10x better than LoL and HoN as far as strategies are concerned. I couldn't stand the cartoony looks, forced views, and store buy from anywhere on the map ala "CS" in both of those games. Learning curve is very steep in multiplayer demigod. Playing single player against AI does not do justice for this game, AI is terrible. Single player experience =/= multiplayer experience.

I picked it up for $5 or so on Target clearance. It was "meh" as others have said. Really bad lag and hiccups in multiplayer and lacking a lot of options compared to competition. If you like DOTA, stick with DOTA. HoH is better also.

I will say it was a bit better balanced than DOTA though. With 6 characters to choose from it's much easier to balance them all out.

Pretty good games. There are 8 heroes at release. Now there should be 10? I'm not sure.

I used to play this game a lot but I got bored of stomping pubs. I literally didn't lose any games for like 200+ games in a row playing online.

Lag is bad and matchmaking is bad. HoN is better but harder to learn.

These codes might be single use since the one they sent me is different. If the first one doesn't work you can try this one:

Demigod is really a good LAN game in my opinion. The netcode used in the game is simply awful and causes the rare multiplayer games you are able to find online a headache to be stable. I found the game very fun and I still jump on from time to time.

As I said though if you have a couple of buddies who need a lan game on the roster, it's a blast to play. Especially since you can run it off one copy for LAN as well, and 5v5 matches are just a good time.

My biggest gripe with the game is it's limited map selection. Especially since of the maps is god-awful and no one even touches it. (Mandala)

I fell for the hype when PC Gamer Podcast talked about it. Simply put, if you have a couple friends you can play and learn it with it is OK and for under $10 not bad.
But if you try to play online be ready to he spanked HARD! Only the "Pros" are still playing online, so you get called out and made fun off trying to play online. Not a welcoming community!

I'm kinda mad that I paid $50 for this when it first came out, and I really only played 2 matches? Why? Horrible horrible horrible network play. Patches were coming out for it every day or so, but didn't address the problems.

It could be totally fixed by now, but that game is dead to me now.

@OP - This is the worst of the dota clones imo. While it's a polished game, something about it isn't quite right to me.

I admit that I pirated this when it first came out. Played it a couple of times single player and deleted it. While I did like that they had different maps, there was just something about the game, while definitely polished, that I just didn't like. It just didn't click to me. Also, while it's pretty much a clone of dota, HoN doesn't click with me either.

I love dota, i like Hon, but when I finally tried LoL in december, I'm absolutely in love with the game. I still fire up HoN beta once or twice a week for a change of pace, but LoL is where I spend my gaming time.

They attributed launch week's network issues due to the 123413421234134 pirates playing on the official servers.

This game is really good at a LAN with around 8 people. My friends and I had a good time. If someone is using a comp that isn't up to spec, it will lag the game out.

I enjoy the hell outta Demigod. In fact, I'll probably be getting on in a couple minutes.

As has already been pointed out, the pros in the custom game multiplayer community are not big on noobs. Demigod has "Favor Items" which are bought using Favor Points, which are earned by playing games. 0 games = 0 points = no favor items, which means you aren't going to be competitive in a non-noob game.
But you earn points even in a loss, and you should win a good percentage of "noobs only" games, so it doesn't take too long to get the good favor items.

I was one of the few that bought the game on release. I thought it was pretty good besides the lag/disconect/wont connect issues on release(supposely this was a gaspowered games issue since they made the game). But that was never my problem, I never had a problem getting into a game it was other players would keep dropping or would get dropped and lag the whole game. So when you are in a 3v3 and 1 of your team mates would lag out the ai would take over and the other players would just farm him,lvl and get gold. It was bad a point where you just walked away from the computer and came back to the game when they were done. Another pet pev of mine was that the pantheon doesnt reset directly after a side wins, because I find those games to be a little bit more interesting and easier to get games up.

I will say this though, I think its a pretty good game, because its actually pretty balanced if there are even teams. I would also point out that when the game was released StarDock was offering refunds if you disliked the game and because of the multiplayer being screwy. For 7 dollars the game is worth it but its pretty juicy so dont be using your 939 socket and 800x on this sucker.

What can I say? Everyone who whines on the official demigod forums uses it, it stuck with me.

Ive heard the term netcode before from someone who programs for videogames, or at least was interning for a company at the time that was making a game.

I think the term is standard.
