Delta Force 2 LAN issues

All me and my bro have is a GeForce 4 420 and a 440. So we cant play all the blinged out games. So me and bro have fun playing the 1999 game Delta Force 2. When we go this Dell, bro would play with me via LAN on his 300Mhz Gateway. Well, now we have another comp for that. So now we running Win XP on both comps. (Gateway ran Win. 98). Now anytime a game is hosted, the person who joins freezes as soon as he selects to join. We both run integrated 100Mbit ethernet through a 5 port Linsys Workgroup switch. We both on the same network as "Home". Can anyone shine some light on this dillemma?
