I would just show up. Bring a bucket.
Brilliant! Show up, puke all over while boarding, and tell everyone how contagious he is. That will encourage the airline to refund his ticket!

Normally I still travel when I am sick. I have taken many trips when I have been sick before. Unfortunately, I am too sick to drive and the airport is nearly 150 away. Getting there is not possible for me. without swapping the seat of my car for a toilet.

How often do you get sick? that you know what you normally will do? Do you have the aids or something?

Earlier this week, I booked a flight from Denver to Salt Lake City for today because a good friend is having his wedding reception tonight. This morning, I woke up sick and am wondering about getting a refund on my ticket. I called Delta and set on hold for 15 minutes before having a lady tell me that my ticket is non-refundable and my best chance at getting anything would be to call the corporate office, which of course is not open until Monday.

Has anybody here gone though this? Do you have any advice? Since I can't contact the corporate office until Monday, what I am wondering is would I have a better chance at getting a refund by canceling my flight, not showing up or if that even matters at all?

Unless your ticket is a special class of ticket (example a Y-class ticket) that allows itinerary changes or refunds you ae probably going to have to eat it.

You need to start calling/emailing everyone and everything you can!

I was in a similar situation (didn't get car insurance because I wasn't planning on getting in an accident.) I ended up having a few too many at the bar, and long story short, put 3 people in the hospital. They sued me, but counter-sued them, the car maker, the bar, the department of transportation, etc. (just cuil shotgun lawsuit) and now I live off the settlement monies and never have to work again.

Or you can look up the definition of non-refundable.

Before everyone cuts this guys balls off... the hotel... did you pay up front or is a guaranteed reservation where you gave your card to reserve the room but havent paid yet?
If the cancellation deadline has passed, it doesn't matter if he has not paid up front. Hotels, however, are more flexible than airlines and the OP can explain *nicely* to a manager and try to avoid being charged. This can be easy if the hotel can sell his room to another traveller for tonight. (I've done this a few times.)

As for the airline ticket, the OP is SOL. He can cancel his NR reservation prior to the flight and get a travel voucher minus a cancellation fee.

Yes.... yes it does. Guaranteed reservations have rules through Visa/MC etc... Depending on which company, it ranges from like 16 hours to 48 hours before checkin. The hotel can NOT change that it is a rule of using the card to do the reservation. A deposit in advance does not follow the same rule. I dont know for sure how far in advance he was asking to cancel either.

As for the airfire, yeah SOL lol.

Other than the occasional food poisoning, this is the first time I have been sick in 2 years, give or take a week. Three out of the last 4 flights that I have taken have been when I was sick. I dont mind doing things when I am sick within reason, but I know my limits and for the sake of myself and others, I could not travel today.
