Delta 7000rpm fan overloaded my onboard fan connector?

I've just installed a new heatsink with a Delta 7000rpm fan for less than a week... Last nite I turned on my PC and the monitor screen was blank.. the usual high pitch screaming noice was gone! I immediately opened up the cover and found out that the Delta fan was "dead"!! While trying to figure out what was going on, I plug the Delta fan to the connector from the power supply and it works! A sigh of relief.... But now my second onboard fan connector which connected to a 8cm casing fan is dead too...
Did the Delta fan draw too much power and overloaded the onboard fan connector??
It's working now as I tap the power from the power supply, but I loose the rpm monitoring capability... 🙁
