I just got this Delta drive from Staples and I think it performs OK.

I got a super deal on Turbo Tax, Quicken 2001 and this drive for $90. I used a $25 off coupon and my price came to around $70 which included tax and free shipping. Now the good part. The Turbo Tax/Quicken combo has a $35 rebate. The 50X drive has a $20 rebate. Final cost for these three items is $15. I love America.

Quicken has always been real good with rebates. The one time I used a Staples rebate, it did come in timely fashion. Plus Staples was kind enough to send e-mail telling me they received the rebate form.

This drive is extreemly loud and achieves only read speeds of 13x-20x.
I got this when the deal was up several month ago and was happy to egay it fast.

:disgust: Just purchased the Delta 50X CDROM today at Staples. The high point was the installation, it was a breeze. After that it was all downhill. This unit produces a LOT of noise. Tried to read from this unit to my CD burner and it just sits there. Seems to lack even the capabilities of my good old 24X! Even at this price I recommend avoiding this dog. Back she goes ....

I just got one, it is $29 with MIR of $20, so $10 plus tax. I have not installed it yet. If it is that bad, I may have to return it tomorrow.

So this drive aint worth $10? I just need to use it to install apps and maybe listen to a cd now and then. I won't use it for cd to cd burns. So will this drive suit what I will use it for?
