DeLonghi Gelato/Ice Cream Maker Compressor Style $100 at WS stores, amazing price!

This deal is super hot, Amazon sells it for $240, Sears sells it for $260 or so. It is made better then the Cuisinart ICE-50BC compressor style ice cream maker and that sells for around $225 on Amazon. For anybody that loves ice cream and likes to be able to easily make your own, this deal is super hot.


I actually bought this machine on the 3rd of July from Sears.com for $207 or so after 10% off, $10 coupon, free shipping, and $35 Bing Cashback. Then I found out Williams-Sonoma was selling it for $150. So I went to my local Sears and did a price match. Few days later, I found out all the WS stores dropped the price to $100 for this machine. Sears wouldn't price match that low so I called all the WS stores here in Colorado and only one place near Denver had 1 left. I reserved it and drove there yesterday to pick it up.


The Williams-Sonoma website had it listed for $150, but they sold out and deleted the item from their website. Only their retail stores have some left and the price is $100, you just need to call. Any of their retail stores in the U.S. will ship to you, so if a store far from you has one in stock and you don't want to drive there, just order it from their store, but you'll have to pay for shipping. There are tons of these machines now listed on eBay as well, because of people buying them up and flipping them on eBay to turn a profit. I have seen them go for around $140 or so including shipping.

So far I love the machine, I owned a Cuisinart ICE-30BC model that required you to freeze the bowl before being able to make ice cream. That worked pretty good, but I wanted something better. The only thing I don't like is this machine doesn't make really big batches, but after using for 2 weeks now, that doesn't really matter since it makes the batches pretty fast. It can do a batch of 1 quart of ice cream every 30 minutes.

$100 is a bargain for a compressor ice cream maker, especially for one that usually sells for $200 and up. Nothing is better then homemade french vanilla ice cream. I guess it's the same for BBQ grills, some people could care less and cook their steak in a frying pan, oven, or just go out to a restaurant. Others buy full range BBQ grills for hundreds of dollars.....it all depends on what you like and what you can afford.

You can call any of the WS stores and they have the ability to look at all other stores inventory to see if there is 1 in stock. By now, all the U.S. stores stock are probably gone though. My friend in Beverly Hills, CA called his local store to buy one but somebody had already called earlier that day and bought all 8 machines, no doubt eBaying them.

I got one of these and I like it. However, it's debatable whether it's worth more than $99. It is large and heavy relative to its 1.5 pint capacity. Almost all of the bulk of the device is taken up in refridgeration to create a small cold surface area at the bottom of the churning bowl. Even at that, you still have to harden the result in the freezer for several hours. Most passive ice cream makers are cheaper and have larger capacity, although you can only make one batch at a time. If you didn't get in on this deal, honestly, you're not missing much. The reason they were on clearance was not because everyone wanted on.

All of the under $300 compressor style ice cream makers are around the same capacity and are sort of heavy/bulky. Also, every consumer affordable ice cream maker produces a thick soft serve ice cream, to get the ice cream hard like store bought it needs to go in the freezer, no way around that.

Most passive ice cream makers are cheaper and have larger capacity, although you can only make one batch at a time. If you didn't get in on this deal, honestly, you're not missing much. The reason they were on clearance was not because everyone wanted on.

The freezer bowl style passive ice cream makers are not that much cheaper, for example the top selling one on Amazon is the 2qt Cuisinart ICE-30BC that sells for $67. It can make 2qts, but after that the gel in the freezer bowl is usually about melted and you can't make more until you freeze the bowl again.

For $30 more then a passive maker, and with the ability to make batch after batch I think this is a killer deal. Remember compressor models usually sell for $250 or so, $100 is a steal.

I agree with you though, this appliance isn't for everyone, a freezer bowl style maker like the Cuisinart ICE-30BC for $67 on Amazon will serve about 95% of peoples ice cream making needs.

I had to call 14 stores to find one and shipping was $20 but it still seems like a decent deal. I particularly liked that, according to the instructional video, you can make the gelato with whole milk.

I'm pretty sure every store has the ability to view all other stores stock, so after you called one store you could have asked them to check the inventory of all other stores in the U.S. and they should have been able to.

I snagged one from the only store in Mississippi.

Shipping was $16 (UPS ground), and it weighs a whopping 38 pounds.

Don't think I will be dragging this beast around to parties.
