hi,

Could someone please tell me whether the system I just ordered from Dell or Apple will be able to play the latest games like Q4, fear and bf2.

I thinking in

DELL XPS M170(Pentium M 760 2 GHz, geforce 6800 ultra 256mb, 1gb ram $2,258),

apple macbook pro (1.67GHz Intel Core Duo, ati x1600 128mb, 512MB $1,999),

Dell 9400(1.83GHz Intel Core Duo, 1gb ram, geforce 7800 256mb $2,098)

If you're interested in gaming, right now the MacBook Pro still isn't a good choice. It's a good system from early reports, but it won't boot Windows XP (not unless there's a hack that people haven't figured out yet) and we don't know for sure how well dual-booting Windows Vista and OS X will work yet. There will be some games that run very well on Intel Macs - World of Warcraft, Quake 4, and others not announced yet - and if you're willing to play what's available on OS X this year, that's perfectly alright. But it's currently still the case that you don't get a Mac with gaming as a primary focus.

I would go with the 9400 just for the fact that i like the business side of dell a bit better.

be carefull on the 9400/e1705. From early reviews it appears the 7800 in the 9400 is not that great. From what I have seen with 3dmark05 scores the 9400 gets about 3800 and the xps has been known to go around 5000.

Is that 5000 score with the 6800 Go Ultra, or the 7800 Go GTX? That's important, because it will definitely cost extra to get a Dell XPS system with the GTX chip. If so, it may be more cost-effective to get the Inspiron 9400 instead.

linkylinklink

That is OC'd, but the 6800 ultra was OC'd to get it above 5k.....

but the 9400 has the 7800 non-gtx. That is the issue. I think the 7800 is good but right now the premium you pay for the 9400 is not worth it. However some may want the dual core above all else.

problem is that the other dual core alternatives suck. The gateway comes with a ATI x1400 SE, the HP comes with a crappy ATI x700, and sony.. what a joke.

2 grand for a decent dual core with a 7800? I'm getting one shortly.
