Dell XPS M1530 + Penryn = kickass machine?

After my Dell D600 broke (probably due to a short circuit on the MB), I began the tedious search for a new laptop. I was reluctant at first to go with a Dell again, but the XPS 1530 seems to be a sweet design, with pretty solid build quality and an overall powerful machine.
Now I'm just waiting for white cover color, higher resolution LCDs and the inclusion of a Penryn option starting at 2.1 Ghz.
Anyone know when I can order one in Europe? I heard that the official start date is January 8th? Is this US only?
Is Dell quick with new stuff or do they normally wait a couple of weeks?

Any Dell insider or current XPS 1530 owner with feedback?

Dell already offers the white cover color option, and the WXSGA+ screen option. Like Scouzer said, Dell is on the up of adapting the latest technologies, so I'd imagine Penryn would be available at most a day or two after it's expected release.

I already saw some Dansk notebook online shop with configuration options for Penryn...I'm really curious how much more Dell will charge for these and when they are available.

Isolating story...but regarding Penryn. Sony has their laptop for pre-order equipped with Penryn (T8100,T9300,T9500). They are scheduled to ship on Jan. 29 2007.

Waiting to see M1730, Alienware m15x:m17x, and Asus V2S Lamborghini.
Most likely will buy a Sony AR series for the: appearance, blu-ray, and Sony's LCD screen.

I ordered a Dell XPS M1530 the other day... just waiting for it now :(. I'll (try to remember to) let you know how it is.

I did order it with the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen so I can give a bit of insight on that. I can tell you now, it'll probably be small text-wise, but I did it because my main PC's monitors are that same resolution so if I transfer WoW between the two, it will work seamlessly. I do wish they'd give me an option for x64 Vista so I could install my own memory (Dell wanted $250 for an upgrade from 3GB to 4GB of ram :p)

Also, why does it take them around 2 weeks to build a laptop anyway?

Just checked out Sony's laptops on their website. Do all their notebooks only come with 1280x800 resolution? That sucks....

For Sony I think the delay is the Penryn shipment.

No, Sony has 1920x1200 res. on their 17". the 15.4" goes up to 1440x900 I think.
I'm going to get the Penryn AR series...about $2200 I get HiColor LCD and Blu-Ray Writer.

Yeah it's ridiculous that these vendors change $300-600 for 4GB RAM. It would take lowest RAM offers and upgrade it on my own. 4GB on outpost.com is less than $100.

I'm also hoping that they offer a SSD hard drive option on the M1530. They offer it as an option on some of their 15.4" business notebooks....

Dell is weak lately

I ordered a 1520 on 12/20/07 and they just updated my order status with a ship date of 2/08/08 apparently the VGA card is on backorder, must be a heck of a backorder to hold up an order that long

Just ordered a virtually identical config from Newegg Asus F3SV and saved $200

Before you order call and see if they have your config available

On the European site another bonus discount (read: plz buy our old stuff) expires on Jan 20th so maybe that's the date they finally put them up.
If I can't get a new videocard (8800m, 9600m) in the 1530 at least give us the shiny new 45nm cpu stuff!
