thank you both for taking the time to show your work. I'm in the same boat as most of the members here who commented. I'm replacing the capacitors on the dell mobo first to see if that will work, if not,, BTX to ATX 4Me

Good luck

I still have a couple cases that I could mod to ATX... but I don't have any systems to put them in and time is the other problem.. I can usually find them on Craigslist for $10-$20 each with dead motherboards and sometimes C2D's installed :D

I also painted the Dell 1000watt PSU for a buddy of mine. I was going to put it in his build, but the PSU is just way to big to fit into his Corsair 200R.

Great job on the mod! I'd love to see more case mods posted on this forum.

The XPS 700 series cases and the HP Blackbird 002 cases both would have sold as standalone cases, but HP at least wasn't bothering with that and I'd bet Dell felt the same way. I even asked HP after testing with the blackbird for several months if I could have just the case; I was told I needed to purchase a full unit at reduced prices (I had a better PC at the time so it didn't happen). Both cases are phenomenally strong and well-designed. I just can't see myself with options like Lian-Li and Silverstone modding one of these. It's fun but making that inside pretty is a nightmare compared to the newer cases where inside aesthetics matter just as much as external aesthetics.

Cool Fact: The Blackbird 002 Chassis is retardedly strong. Someone from management in a meeting complained about how strong the units leg was, and one of the larger engineers promptly dispelled the rumor by either sitting or standing on it, I forget which.

Update: I replaced the bad capacitors on the motherboard and the system works now. :)

Thank you sir. I too am a huge fan on the blackbird case. I remember opening up my Maximum PC magazine and seeing that bad boy used in their dream PC - very cool and different.

That's an awesome build. I really like the creativity!

Thanks bud

Hi Face2Face. I have a dell xps 720 and i would like to keep the case. I am looking to do something similair to what you have done.

Is it possible to mod this case without a dremel? I prefer not to buy one if possible. dont want to spend too much money.

what would be the best mobo case to use?

This has lasted me 7 years, looking to get good mobo and cpu to last me another 7-10 years.

My current setup:
xps 720
qx6600
8GB ddr2 pc2-6400 kingston
2x 1tb seagate hd
cd rw
dvd rw
floppy
GTX 660 2GB
standard fans, power supply

F2F, truly inspiring. I looked into doing this with our pristine XPS 720; I agree with you it's one of the most awe-inspiring cases ever manufactured. I'm so sad that the photos of your project got bit-bucketed by PhotoBucket. Now it's several years down the road from your achievement, but I'd like to try this with my grandson. I'd love to see your results before getting it underway. Do you have those archived elsewhere, by any chance?

Hello Face2Face, i'm thinking about a LOT easier converion, XPS 625 with a new motherboard, now since the 625 comes with AMD AM2+ ATX motherboard, the only things i have to do are lighting and PSU, i would really appreciate if you could explain the lighting a bit deeper... I'm planning on using 1 color if that helps... And can i use a new PSU?

Do you still happen to have the photos/wiring diagrams? For some reason they don’t show anymore and it would be helpful for my mod in progress. Thanks
