Can you use them on another laptops like say my acer amd turion laptop?

i have a dell windows media center 2005 restore cd that came w/ my sisters laptop and just wondering...

can i use my sisters cd key or my acer winxp cdkey (non sp) or have to call in?


your input will be appreciated=)
 
Most Restore CDs are keyed in some way to the H/W platform.

Using it on a different platform would violate the TOS at a minimum.
 
No. The Dell OEM CD will have a CD key embedded in the install files, and it will not activate on a non-Dell machine AFAIK.
 
could i call in the ms activation center and give them my acer winxp license cdkey? i just want the latest updated OS on my acer w/o going thru all the hefty process.

or it will not even allow me to activate it?

Your Acer key is for Media Center 2005? If not, then you don't have a valid license to use the Dell disc.
