My 21" CRT died today and I am in a hurry to get it replaced. Which is the better buy? Viewsonic vx2025 or Dell 2007FWP ? (2005?)

Any pointers would be great.

I've got both the 2007WFP and the VX2025WM with an NEC 20WMGX2 on the way. To me, the colors seem to be more vibrant on the Dell, and the monitor itself (stand, bezel, etc) is very attractive. The ViewSonic is faster I believe and its controls are very easy to navigate through. While the bezel and fixed stand are not as nice compared to the Dell, it manages its cords and connections through a discreet track leading from the monitor to the base of the stand that is covered by plastic tops, giving it a very sleek and finished look without cords being visible. Also, with the VX2025 I have yet to see a dead/stuck pixel whereas the Dell I can begin to find a few when I look for them. The Dell, for me, has gradient banding but I've heard rumors that that has been fixed. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) For some reason my ViewSonic came with very minimal banding as well, not at all comparible to the 2007WFP, but still there regardless. The backlight bleeding is more apparent on the VX2025WM, but a near solid black on the 2007WFP. For the best color/contrast ratio as well as price/perforrmance, I think you can't go wrong with the VX2025WM IMHO.

vx2025wm is a great monitor but expect backlight coming about an inch off each corner when watching dvd's. it doesn't distract you from the movie so its okay, i've already learned to ignor it

Personally I think performance-wise the ViewSonic is the better deal. It doesnt have the extra features the Dell has but I didnt need those extra features anyway. Do you need/want those extra features? If so, then choose the Dell. If not, then choose the ViewSonic.

I see no backlight bleeding. I turned down the gamma in the Nvidia CP to ~0.78 though and turned up the digital Vibrance. Does that have anything to do with it?

I decided on the Viewsonic. So far I love it. Not *quiet* as vibrant and my 21" CRT was, but much more clear. I played some half life 2 and was pretty impressed. No ghosting. So overall I am happy with the purchase.

If they were the same price, I'd go for the Dell. It has the height adjustable base and most reviews agree that it has slightly better color reproduction, with just an overall better picture. Of coures the difference is small, as the Viewsonic is also a very nice LCD.

So, since the VX2025 can be found for ~$330 shipped every day, and <$300 if you're patient, the VX2025 becomes the better choice IMO.

i just bought the viewsonic...first LCD ever. I must say, i like it so far, but there is some backlight bleeding on the corners...is that normal, and is it at all correctable? Lastly, no dead or stuck pixels!

I've been considering getting either the Dell 2007WFP or the Viewsonic VX2025WM (actually tried picking up the 2025 the other day only to return it (defective)) question is how well does the 1:1 scaling work on the Dell. I ask specifically as I would like to get a widescreen monitor that I can still play older fullscreen games on is this relatively easy. I am under the impression that this is impossible on the Viewsonic but supported on the Dell.

Josh6079 have you scaled much on the Dell?

I've got the Dell 2407FPW and it's outstanding. I had an XBOX 360 on the VGA/PC on the DVI, but had to move the XBOX to the living room - one reason for the kids, the other reason that it was getting too HOT at the comp desk (just dropped an 1900XT into the PC too).

It DOES scale 1:1 (at least there's an option for it). I can try it out later tonight, unless someone chimes in before then.

yes, the Dell monitors do support 1:1 scaling. can be done form the monitors built in menu, and works VERY well for playing older 4:3 games.

not too many other monitor brands support this feature, big point for Dell displays IMO.

When I try and use the built in menu to scale the option is browned out and cannot be selected, and lucky for me it seems dell doesnt want to make calling tech support easy as I bought "ONLY" a monitor. Its clear what I want to select (wide mode, change from fill to 1:1) but I'm not being allowed to do so, any suggestions, comments or other words of advice? Thanks.

your video card drivers are probably scaling the image automatically. make sure you set the driver to 'monitor scaling' or whatever it is called. that should solve your problems...

I would have said Dell, hands down. It also supports HDCP and has many scaling options. Colors are more vibrant and the panel is more uniform. Dell has great service as well. Well, a great return policy at least.
