Very, very tempting for media center box. Wish I could sub out the OS for a few bucks :(

What O/S do you want? It comes with Vista Business AND the XP Professional downgrade.

I ordered this last week when it was at 2GB mem and 160GB HDD. Called today and canceled that one and got this one.

how does the downgrade work? a client of mine wants a new pc and this would be great for him. i would love if it came with xp straight from the factory without having to do any 'downgrade' OS related work.

This is a totally awesome deal, but just know that it is a slimline case and video card upgrades are limited.

I'm not trying to crap on the deal. I'm just pointing it out because there have been a few posts recently from people trying to upgrade their slim Vostros, and not having an easy time finding the video card they want.

Yeah, Zap, I've been watching these Vostro deals go by, and that slimline looks like voodoo to me. I have several drives I want to shove into the thing, and the little guy just isn't going to cut it.

Interestingly, the minitower is also $429 with Vista Biz, the XP downgrade, but (sigh) only a 160GB hard drive and 2 GB of dual channel memory. Going to the full tower, it's about $659 to get out the door with a similar deal to the slim 220 (although you do get a 22" monitor).

Anybody know if a Vostro motherboard will mate to an older (like 7 years old) AT tower? I'm looking to replace a homebuilt ECS K7S5A, and I've got a giant Chieftec case to house the new computer.

It will ship with XP installed, but both install disks should be in the box.

Shipping/handling = $35; tax = $35 (in Ohio). Brings cost up to $500.

Also, you can remove the 20" flat panel and save $80. Though $80 for a 20" is a good deal anyway.

It's a business-class desktop, so if you have a Tax ID, the tax is waived. Even if you don't have a tax ID and have bought from Dell before, you can add to your cart then call sales directly and see if they will waive the shipping.

i emailed my mom to cancel and order this new deal. so she called, talked to someone who took her order number so that she could "follow up personally" (according to my mom) and when the lady talked to my mom later today, she said that the order had been changed, and she had given free next day shipping on it! :Q

GAH! they changed it again today! I'm going to cancel and get this one. seems to better on all fronts:

22 inch monitor instead of 20 in
Core2 Duo E7300 instead of Dual Core E2220
320 GB HDD instead of 250 GB

you do lose a gig of mem though, 2gb instead of 3gb, but whatever...mem is cheap these days

2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz - 2DIMMs
Single Drive: 16X (DVD+/-RW) Burner Drive
320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache?

Does anyone know what the memory configuration is in this? One 2gb stick, (2) 1 gb sticks, etc? Also, there is a choice between 2 different 22" monitors for the same price. Which one is the better deal? I tried comparing them on their site, but I could only find one. I think I'm gonna jump on this.....

Thanks,

Bob

So, what are the options for video upgrade on this one, if you recall, of course? Thanks!

Supposedly the 220s does not have SATA support either? Anyone confirm this?

Got it yesterday and it is a very nice system. Went from a 17" LCD to this 22" widescreen. That's a lotta realestate!!
Very small case - can probably get one more HD in it - and it takes a low-profile video card. Funny how it ships
with a LCD with a DVI hookup, but the video out on the system is only standard VGA - No DVI....
