when i installed my 2001FP, i didn't use the driver CD. i think even CRTs come with "monitor drivers" but almost all systems, to the best of my knowledge, detect the monitors immediately without any problems or incompatible drivers.

i think the only thing that could be questionable is using DVI. i haven't gotten that to work yet.

You have a 2001FP and don't use DVI?

no, i don't. i'm using standard VGA for the time being. the reason is because i have a KVM switch that only supports VGA connections. my windows machine has a video card that supports DVI, but my linux machine does not. i can't figure out how to use a VGA to DVI adapter and get DVI working properly, and i'm not even sure if that's a possibility (getting true DVI out of a converter, that is).

i could tinker with it, but i really haven't wanted to bother with it lately.

the 2001 looks so much better running DVI...

i really can't tell the difference. my husband has an 1801FP and his is configured for DVI, but i don't see much of a change.

so how do you recommend that i get my DVI to work while sharing monitors between two machines?

you won't see it in the 1800...but in the 2001 you will...

I've looked for a DVI KVM myself...haven't found one yet.

it would be nice if it supports DVI and VGA, since i don't really need a DVI-compatible vid card for a linux box that i'm almost always using in a shell prompt.

please let me know if you come up with any results. :)

i guess i'll just stick to VGA on my 2001FP for now.

For some reason setting the refresh rate to 70Hz instead of the normal 60Hz fixed some flickering that my monitor had with certain patterns on the screen.

Plug in VGA to your Linux box, DVI to your windows box, use the Input button on the monitor to switch?

2001FP was $390 couple days ago :p Hope you bought that 19inch cheaper than that ~

and yea the first time i hear lower refresh rate is better, but like the other guy said, u guys sure know wat u guys are talking about, and yet at 1600x1200, 60 is the only option.

<-- went back to 75Hz for LCD. Mouse movements seem smoother.
