Hi all,

It's been some time since I've been on this forum so apologise for just coming here asking for some assistance then disappearing again. :)

A friend has just bought a new Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP monitor and asked me to come and configure it for him as the text quality was poor.

Anyway, upon visiting tonight he was right. Running at 1920 x 1200 (it's native resolution) the text had some fringing which we were able to erradicate however the text still look blurry and no very sharp at all.

He's running it from a Rock lap top which has a nVidia GeForce Go 7950GTX graphics card installed. Text is fine on it's own panel and also when connected to his 15" LCD he had before the upgrade. I've installed drivers for the monitor, messed about with most of the Monitor and nVidia settings but still it's very blurry. The text isn't blocky like its running in a resolution other than native.

I could do with some assistance if possible as he still thinks I'm the IT guru from yester year. :)

Sorry, I should have mentioned the following.

I downloaded from nVidia the latest driver for the 7950 but they wouldn't install. It looks like you have to use the drivers as supplied by Rock, which we looked into and he's running the latest they have. He is also running Vista Ultimate (32bit) so clear type might not work. I didn't think clear type would get rid of blurry text tho would it? Thanks again guys.

nvidia direct drivers should work
try uninstalling the current drivers and go to nvidia's weebsite and use the smart scan tool
it will pinpoint the exact driver you need
clear type might help try enabling it and play with its settings
clear type was created to make text sharper

Probably a silly question, but is your friend connected through VGA (analog) instead of DVI (digital)?

howdy. i have had this problem and only just resolved it today.
the problem is with the screen dpi settings / font size.
i have a xps m1730 and my 17" screen runs at 1920 x 1200 resolution, so it thinks it is a 24" due to the amount of pixels.
the default setting for the text size is set to default for a 24"screen due to the amount of pixels, so its to small to see on a 17". if u get what i mean, if not it dosn't matter.

SOLUTION:
find yr screen dpi settings. in vista it is control panel> appearance personalization> personalization, and its on the left side under tasks. i have no idea when it comes to xp.
if the text size is big enough to read then change the screen dpi by just one pixle. you will hardly notice the change.
if its still fuzzy after your restart, then change it by another pixel. if its still not right change it by one pixel increments at a time, note the settings will only take effect after a restart.

this should work for examlpe. i changed the text to the large print 120 dpi and it was fuzzy as hell, but then i went up by one pixel to 121 and its great!!!

have fun
