I think the largest reason for this is because of colors. Colors on CRTs are frequently different than on LCDs. However, with the newest LCDs, the difference is minor (although sometimes still noticible).

As for the quality of the color on the 2001FP - it's great. One of the better LCDs out there. :)

If you're doing the image/video editing as a hobby and not professionally, I'm sure you'll be just fine on an LCD. Only if you were doing it professionally would you want to look much into it.

Well, I got mine in today. I set it up and it's nothing short of AMAZING.

I know it sounds stupid, but with this monitor, it's so big, I feel like I'm IN the internet. ;)

Anyone having any problems with their new 2001FP?
I received mine late yesterday and immediately fell in love with it -- unfortunately when I powered it on I noticed 6! spots where the backlight leaks onto the panel and makes a bright spot at the edge - when the screen is black its horrible..white polka-dots all around the edge of the screen

If that wasn't enough, there's a large 'patch' in the center of the screen where text becomes blurry -- everywhere else on the screen is fine but if I move a window over that patch all the text in it becomes out of focus.
I'm confident its not my hardware because I tested on an old sony trinitron CRT and a 17" 16ms Planar LCD -- both fine with no problems.

I called dell today and the lady appologized like 20 times and hooked me up with an exchange via overnight shipping -- just worried that the next one I get will be defective as well. At least the customer services was nice and helpful - I've had bad experiences with Dell CS before but their prices are too good to resist sometimes.

Anyone else having problems with this otherwise beautiful monitor? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

It's close either way in most states... my order with Dell SB was $790 w/ tax, vs. Dell Home @ $800, so the Dell SB was slightly better...... now if there was a $35 off or similar coupon you could stack with that Dell Home deal, that might be sweet.

Lol. When I unpacked mine, I saw a spot at the upper left corner of the monitor, about 1/2 inch from the top and about 1/4 inch from the side. I thought it was a speck of dust or something but I tried to remove it with the tip of my finger and it wouldn't come off. I just assumed it was a dead pixel. Just a second ago I used a wet "anti-static" napkin thing and the spot came right off. Heh.

jlm46, I would think problems like what you experienced would be few and far between. I bet your replacement is fine. Btw, were you using analog or digital with your monitor when it was having problems?

I bet ya' that jlm46 was using Analog and the signal was getting corrupted by some interference at that high of a resolution.

jlm46, if you still have the defective monitor hooked up, try dropping the resolution down to 800x600 (not any other resolution) and see if you still see the same blurry effect. If you don't see the blurry effect at 800x600, then I bet your signal is receiving interference and a new LCD won't be any better. However, for all of your spots, sounds like a new one is what you need. :)

Just got mine (well, it came on Friday but I've been out). Turns out I have 1 bad pixel (always black) but it's down near the bottom where my taskbar is. So anytime where I would have a white screen (coding, surfing, etc.), I'll have my taskbar over it and I can't really notice it then. If I'm doing something that makes the taskbar go away (movie, gaming, etc.), then usually the screen is dark anyways and since this pixel is black, it's all good.

Overall, I'm very happy with this LCD. :)

Thanks for the advice Jaxidian - I was using analog...my dvi capable card is on another pc and I've been having trouble getting my hands on a 6800 GT at a good price like everyone else that missed the bestbuy deal : )

unfortunately nothing can change the backlight leakage - and it was so severe that I had to call and get a new one shipped, they were very nice at least and did free overnight, should be getting it today or tomorrow depending on when it leaves their warehouse (already has a tracking number)

some of you may be interested in this though - at least worth a try for another $25 back to match the dell home deal from last week that used the $30 off coupon, i'm sure its YMMV

I just got my 2001fp today. WOW is it beautiful. No dead pixels at all! HIGHLY recommend.

If you're in a state where Dell small business charges tax (such as NJ, where I am), then it's better to get it from Dell Home (20% off, plus $30 of $400, free shipping, no tax - see Rasputin for $30 off coupon). Came to $769 shipped for me.

I bought one several months ago, from the Dell outlet and it is by far the best montior I have ever had. I game on it an average of 3 hours/day and do not have any problems. This is a VERY HOT deal becaue that is almost what I paid for mine from the outlet.

If I had the cash, I would definitely get a 2nd one.
