Dell Ultrasharp 1905FP Pincushioning

I just received the above unit from Dell yesterday and am running it at it's native resolution. (1280x1024 - 60Mhz.)

I currently run an Abit NF7S Ver. 2.0 mobo w/ AMD 1800+ processor & matched set of 2-256 mb of Mushkin 2-2-2-2 "Special" DDR. Power supply is PC Power & Cooling Turbo 350 atx. Videocard is Matrox G-450 (yeah I know but the 2-d is still the best) & I am forced to use the analogue cable at this point until I get a 9800 AIW (new, sealed in box) from my neighbor which has the DVI output.

I don't do hardly any gaming so I know the 9800 is a bit of overkill but I do need the VIVO stuff and the price is right. ($175.00)

I seem to get what appears to me to be a slight "pincushioning" effect ie: the screen appears to "bow" outwards a little - much like looking at a a slightly curved movie theater screen and, I haven't seen anyone mention this in any of the threads I have searched through.

It's not terrible (just a little irksome) but, I cannot adjust this w/ this monitor. My former monitor was a 21" Hitachi SuperScan Supreme CRT which was getting a little long in the tooth. It also ran at 1280 x1024, only at 85 Mhz.

Now, I am using a high quality VGA extender cable at this point as my machine is a little way from my desk so I am not sure if that's the problem or, if a DVI (still needs to be about 10-12' long) will cure this.

PQ (color and clarity) is good & text is great.

Suggestions anyone?

Do you happen to have anything close to the monitor (i.e. speakers or other items with magnets in them).

I know that is a problem for CRT monitors, I'm not sure how or if you would get the same problem with the LCD your using, but you might check that and/or if anything is close to or influencing the cable (maybe the cable is next to the subwoofer kind of problem).

Often problems with monitors that have a distortion effect I have found to be other electronic systems.

That just takes time to get used to when switching from a CRT. All LCDs are like that.

cbehnken: I'll try it w/o the extension and that way it will also not be affected by other cabling the current vga extension runs along side of although - it wasn't a problem w/ the crt.

By this I assume you mean the "pincushioning effect I am (or perceive) to be seeing?

I connected the Dell vga cable to the monitor/computer, totally away from any other cabling or interference source and the effect is still there.

The panels are absolutely flat, and its individual pixels are right there on the front glass, arranged in an exactly rectangular shape. Sorry, but LCD screens cannot possibly pincushion.

You very well might think they do, because CRT screens, no matter how "flat", always have a slight amount of convex curve. So the "rectangular" you're used to actually is a slight barrel shape, so now an actual, proper rectangle appears to you as pincushioned.
