Dell U2312HM A00 rev

Hey all,

I bought an A05 rev of a 2312 back in July or so. Great monitor and all that, and I shelved my old 120hz monitor (and sold it recently.) I've now bought a second 2312 and...well, what the hell Dell. It's an A00 rev made in December 2012 (how do you go DOWN in revision? It went A05 -> A06 -> A00) and the new monitors have an AWFUL yellow tint to them it seems. I'm picking up a colorimeter to see if I can get them to play nice, otherwise I'll just return the monitor; I tried ICM files from TFT central but they didn't bring the monitors even remotely close in terms of colors.

Is this normal for Dell? Because it's making me rethink any future purchases of Dell monitors...

If memory serves me, the original A00 panels had a huge yellow tint problem. I believe the hardocp forum had a large discussion about it. There may have also been a gradient like effect as well.


Send it back and ask for a replacement.

Thing is this isn't a original A00 rev. It's a made in late 2012 A00 panel and I'm seeing similar reports. I get my colorimeter tomorrow so if I can't calibrate the problem away, I will just do a return for refund from Amazon as I suspect it's an ongoing problem, not a fluke. If I manage to calibrate it with either the OSD or a color profile, I'll be sure to post it.

Dell doesn't go backwards in revision numbers. However, they will continue to produce old and new revisions concurrently depending on parts availability. They probably had a backlog of the older panels.

Interesting info, thanks. Any idea if the two panels can be made to look close in colors? I guess I should have just bought all the panels I wanted at the same time, but didn't have the room back then....

Go into the OSD settings. There is a graphics mode and a video mode. IIRC the video mode is much cooler in color than the graphics mode. Make sure they're the same setting.

It should be possible to get them close if you use a colorimeter to generate a custom ICC profile for each panel.

Awesome - trying that now using Dispcalgui and a Spyder 4 Express. From the quick interactive calibration they have you do for white balance (which my target was 6500k for) I can say this behaves like an A00 with SERIOUS yellow issues...adjusting the RGB, just to hit 6500k my monitor is at 84,84,92 (R+G=Y...)

Even if I calibrate it alright, I'm thoroughly disappointed Dell would do this and am still tempted to just return it. Would Dell support even give me a proper revision? Is dell doing this pending a 2313 model?

I think that if you can get them close enough after calibration, then you should keep them. Sure, you could make some sort of philosophical stand and return the monitor, but what does that really accomplish? You waste a bunch of your time and won't change Dell's policy one iota. If you cannot get them close enough, then by all means return the new monitor.

Dell RMA won't be able to chose what revision you would get as a replacement, it's completely abstracted away from them. You would pretty much have to "know a guy" at the warehouse to ensure that. As for whether or not they're clearing stock for a new model, it wouldn't surprise if they are, but I don't have any specific knowledge.
