i have no idea. the computer was working fine, now it doesnt. when i tried the parts in this computer, neither the mobo or the hd worked. no installs, no power surges, nothing.

Are you saying you opened that case and swapped parts? If so, you're SOL regarldess, warranty was void as soon as you cracked open the case.

Bad situation but they are well within their rights to take the route they have.

It's likely worth your time to put up a bigger stink about it. Airplane tickets/itinerary, PHONE records that include the call to dell, etc.

Makes you start considering more than a single year warranty and/or express tech support, doesn't it? 😉

didn't u know? the dell.exe monitoring spyware makes sure to self destruct as soon as the warranty runs out. try downloading an extended warranty patch.

u have to buy a new dell computer every year of the same identical model to retain your warranty

to those who say i was lazy, you are simply wrong. getting my affairs straight was exactly what i was doing, it just so happens that fixing my computer was extremely low on my priority list. my computer isnt my life as it may be for some people here. if you dont have any constructive opinions, no need to hate, just dont reply.

thanks to those who had useful suggestions. i did talk to a supervisor actually, he told me that i had to call the warranty people, and they would extend my warranty so that the tech people could send me a new mobo. when i called the warranty people, they told me that it was impossible, because i have an outstanding technical issue. the guy i talked to was an absolute dick, even though i was very polite (until the end where i got fed up with his attitude) the irony: they probably would have extended it if i hadnt called about the problem, but because i have a problem documented, no luck. at this point i called the customer service people again and told them very politely the situation, they said there was nothing they could do. so i guess more than anything this becomes a warning to people, dont buy dell.

If your computer was too low on the list to worry about, then why are you complaining? You could have gotten it taken care of, and you chose not to. You made a decision, now you want Dell to pay for your poor choice?

Ummm ok.

I dealt with dell email support which was slow and the warranty expired in the course of emails back and fourth and a rep finally honored it.

wow, you really dont have anything better to do?

No but you did... and you didn't do it. Hope you learned your lesson. Seriously though you know damn well this could have been taken care of before hand and you failed to do it, and now you are telling people not to buy Dell becasue you failed to do what you should have done. ????
When they ask you why they shouldn't be a Dell make sure to tell them it's cause you didn't take care of the problem.

i agree that i made the choice, i was just wondering if there was any way i could get them to replace the parts as the warranty was expired by 4 days. in hindsight its no big deal, i was just venting. i guess i'm in the market for a new mobo now, a little upgrade could be nice.

No suspect at all. Look at the name on the box. That says it all. Cheap junk assembled from floor sweepings. Profit margins so thin they take their support overseas. When will people learn?

Cheers!
What an ass! They use Intel motherboards and Western Digital HDDs. What do you use that's superior?

The our company ordered two machine from them the delivery was delayed for eleven days. I remember when they were always prompt.

I just got off the phone with Dell, and there business practices are very suspect. I have a Dimension 4550, and the invoice date on it is 10/17/02. The hard drive and motherboard both seem to have died on me, and I called them on 9/27/03, a Saturday. After getting through initially, I waited on hold for 1 hour and 45 minutes until I gave up. I left the country on 10/2/03 for 3 weeks, getting back yesterday. Called today, they told me that since it was undocumented, I was out of luck and they wouldnt replace the parts. Now, my warranty is expired by 4 days!! After much talking, was told I could call the warranty people, they would extend the warranty, then I could have them replaced. Lo and behold, the warranty people tell me to go f myself, have a nice day. :| Is there any other recourse? Am I totally wrong to be upset? Policy is policy, but this is horrible customer service.

Cliff notes:
Mobo and hd die
call dell, wait forever, hang up
leave country
come back, call, warranty expired by 4 days
told i'm fuct

DELL SUCKS!!!!!!

You shouldn't have hung up. And you should have emailed them at least. That way the work order would still be pending when you got back. Sorry dude but you're SOL.

Then don't whine about it. 🙂

You should change the title of your thead, Dell has done nothing wrong here.

Think about it, what if you showed up 4 days late for a flight to anywere? you think they should still let you fly, what if you showed 4 days late for a court date?

They take thousands of calls a week if they sent out parts and techs to everyone who called in who were out of warranty they would go under.

That being said I think you could still get this taken care of by someone here.

Good luck.

this does blow but what can u do. i think ur sh!t outta luck - u could keep trying to harass dell but i dunno what will happen.

OTOH, you could have emailed while out of the country, or called back on 9/29, 9/30, or 10/1 for support before you left.
Agreed. I would have persisted to get the case documented before the warranty expired. Plus, there are usually "opportune" times of the day to call to avoid long phone wait times.

However, I do feel that this is a very bad situation. Dell should take care of you - even though you are 4 days out of warranty.

actually.. now that dell tech support is moved to india; it's not uncommon to get lost in their queue and be on hold for an infinite amount of time.

also, calls are dropped often.

im currently dealing w/ dell over a similar issue, except im 2 weeks until the end of a warranty.

the mobo, hdd, lcd, video, and possible cpu all went bad within a 2 week period. (lcd starting screwing up, machine started randomly rebooting, hdd started making noise. I formatted and the issue didn't go away. they replaced the mobo, and it stopped randomly rebooting. then; it started again. they have replaced everything in the laptop, but the tech that did it left screws loose and some rattle in it.)

dell support sucks now. im sick of dealing with them, we will likely move to gateway.
