dell studio 1555 laptop not turning on

GFs sister brought it to me. said it wouldn't power on at all. the first time i tried the power button it worked and booted into windows(although slow due to spyware). after i turned it back off i haven't since been able to get it to turn on. i've tried different memory and took the cmos battery out/in and still nothing. the power cord seems to work fine as it's illuminated the blue color at the end of the cord.

any idea guys? power source or motherboard is what i'm thinking but the fact that it turned on and worked fine boggles my noggin.

When you say "won't turn on" do you mean "power button won't work, no bios" or "Bios but won't get past that".

For the former (which is what it sounds like) you may try (depending on your confidence) taking apart the computer, finding the jumper that the power button is connected to and shorting that connection to try to force it to power on.

Removing the battery (main, not CMOS) may help.

i've taken the cmos battery out, nothing. can a boot virus cause the computer to not turn on whatsoever? when i say won't turn on it won't light up, spin up, no fans, nothing. like a brick.
