It's shipping with Android 1.6 unfortunately, will be interesting to see if the dev's jump on this hardware.

I know many of you have been waiting for official pricing and carrier information on Dell Streak, so I’ll just cut to the chase.
  • AT&T will be the carrier for customers in the United States.
  • Pricing: $299.99 with new two-year AT&T contract, and $549.99 without.
  • Customers who register for the pre-sale will be able to order aDell Streak this Thursday August 12.
  • Dell Streak will go on sale to the general public beginning this Friday.
Those who have registered (or will register) for the pre-sale will be getting an email Thursday morning, this week from Dell that will allow you to place an order for a Carbon Black version before it goes on sale to the general public. If you still haven’t registered, you still have some time to do it, but you’ll need to hurry. See my earlier post on how the pre-sale process works for more detail.
Update: In the #dellstreak tweetstream and elsewhere, many of you are asking about whether the $549 version will be unlocked. To be clear, the answer is no. Here are my two tweets on the topic that summarize where we are at this point:
SIM locked to ATT, according to Dell

ATT only 3G bands :(

Specs:

Hardware-wise, the Dell Streak features the following:

  • A sharp 5-inch capacitive multi-touch WVGA (800x480) display for a great full-screen experience watching video or browsing the web
  • Fast 1GHz Snapdragon ARM-based mobile processor from Qualcomm
  • 5 MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash that offers easy point & shoot capability and quick uploads to YouTube, Flickr, Facebook and more
  • VGA front-facing camera enables video chat functionality down the road
  • A user-removable (and replaceable) battery
  • A 3.5mm headphone jack means many of you can use the Dell Streak as the music source (and more) in your car
  • Integrated 3G + Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + Bluetooth 2.1 (think headsets, external keyboards, stereo headsets, etc.)
  • UMTS / GPRS / EDGE class 12 GSM radio with link speeds of HSDPA 7.2 Mbps / HSUPA
  • A user-accessible Micro SD slot expandable up to 32GB. That means you can store lots of movies, music, photos or other kinds of files.
On the software side, here's what you can expect:

  • A customized multi-touch version of the Google Android operating system that features Dell user interface enhancements
  • Access to over 38,000 apps (and growing) via the Android Marketplace
  • Microsoft Exchange connectivity and integration through TouchDown
  • Google Voice support
  • Integrated Google Maps with voice-activated search, turn-by-turn navigation, street and satellite views
  • Quick access to activity streams via integrated social network app widgets like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube

XDA on the Streak: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=695

I'm going to hold off till it hits the Dell Outlet, I think it'll be awesome if the dev's at XDA jump on it, by the time it hits the Outlet, there should be some awesome ROMs available for it if the community adopts it...

I'm considering grabbing a SIM adapter and popping in my 3G iPad SIM in an unsubsidized unit.

Where's that Android Skype app? :(

Looks pretty rough around the edges, I'll wait for Anand's review to fully expose it's weaknesses. None does reviews like Anandtech.

Yeah, I think the bezel's too big, and I don't like the shape, looks like a BB Storm, but if the screen is worth a damn, I'll love it. The keyboard with a numeric keyboard on the side is pretty stupid IMHO...

The integration of Google services makes it pretty tempting, navigation, Gmail, etc...

Too much bezel. I like the idea of 5" device, but it should be pretty much all screen.

Bump, goes on sale in the US on the 13th. Those of us on the waiting list should be getting emails tomorrow and be able to pick up in store on Friday...

I had been waiting for the Streak since it was first announced but after seeing the absurd pricing (with contract) I ended up picking up a Captivate and couldn't be happier.

Meh. Only way I'd be interested is if they offered data-only plans like with the iPad. I'm not sure I'd want to use such a device as my only phone. I'd rather have a $30 data plan and, say, a cheap prepaid flip phone for calls and text messages.

At $550 without a contract and with 3G, it's only slightly cheaper than the $630 iPad 16GB/3G, and it only has 2 GB of internal storage (so you'd have to get a microSD card separately as well). I'd actually rather have a smaller, more portable tablet than the ungainly iPad, but I just don't know where the Streak fits in.

That price is insane. It looks like att didn't want to subsidize it. Hopefully this is just an initial fail and they figure things out. I was hoping that companies like dell and asus establishing themselves in the market is what will really lower prices and expand the market, but this is not the way to do that.

re: rooting this

correct me if i'm wrong, but you can't get 2.1/2.2 on this without a radio update right? and it would need dell to release if for that to happen.

unless you can run froyo with the 1.6 radio (which i guess is possible)

If you think 5" is a large for a phone, how about a 11.2" Tablet phone? (ICD Gemini Tablet)

I'd rather see $20/month data and prepaid voice as a combo that could be used. Or straight up data only and use VOIP for all calls for free.

Me too but good luck getting that. What bothers me about the Streak is that it will probably require a voice plan, and if it's supposed to be a tablet, what is it doing with a voice plan? The iPad doesn't require a voice plan.
