I really want one, and 399 without contract is an acceptable price. The problem is by the time I can afford one it will be hardware I no longer desire.
Hopefully next spring or summer they have something better.

So the streak 7 is basically a galaxy tab for $150 less ?

No, the Streak 7 is a new device, no prices have been released, the ad campaign appears to have been leaked.

The Dell Streak is a 5" phone/MID/tablet, and the 16GB version has been reduced to $399 off contract.

So is it a tablet, or a phone? Anyways, I guess the Tab and Nook Color have set a standard for resolution though, the 800x480 seems inadequate now for a 7".

800x480 for a 7" inch is a big downer.
I won't even look at 7" tablets with 1024x600 resolution.
Not when we have 7"inchers coming out with 1280x800(or something close to that)

Actually at 7 inches this cant really be called a phone any more. Look at the pic of the guy holding it. That would not work held up against your cheek. Its a tiny tablet, and it seems to be only GSM. The problem with that is: Will it support AT&T's or T-mobiles 3G? Cuz really this thing is only gonna be useful on one service, unless you just use the Wifi and forget about service.
Probably for the best, even with bluetooth I dont think anyone is gonna use this as a phone.

Nevermind, I see the ad only lists T-mobiles network. And not their 4g either. So they picked what is currently the weakest, slowest 3G provider to use this thing? Good luck with that.

What I find annoying about tablets... all of them... is that all the hardware and software is there to make tablets, of any size, that everyone would like... yet no one has done that. Why the f**k not?!?

Fast enough processors, big enough batteries, hi-res capacitive touch screens, connectivity options, OS.... everything is available, yet no one is packaging all of those things into a home-run device. It's stupid.

I stand corrected. Couldn't find the T20 model number on Nvidia's site anywhere, and nothing I read referenced it as a Tegra 2 part.

I'm not 100% sure about it but the T20 doesn't look like Tegra 1 and a few articles on nvidia's site say it's tegra 2 even though it isn't on the list of Tegra 2 parts.

Apple is, with the iPad. I don't like Apple at all and yet if I were buying a tablet today, the iPad is the only one I would even consider.

Seriously though, I know what you mean. It feels like Apple's competitors aren't even trying. Remember how many years it took for other companies to release serious competitors to the iPod? For the first 3-4 generations, it was basically uncontested.

It's not on the list of ANY Tegra parts. I vaguely remember a blurb about Dell working on this device early last year, and one of the things mentioned was the curiosity why Dell was going to use a Tegra 1 part for this product with Tegra 2 just being released. Dell's response was that they were already too far down the design cycle to make the change.

Again, just lends more to the confusion.

Tegra 1 wasn't a dual core and afaik was never clocked anywhere close to 1ghz so I would be surprised if T20 is one of them. I suppose it could be some previously unseen version of Tegra 1 but if that's the case this tablet would be much slower than any of it's competitors.

One of the Articles on Nvidia's site listed the Boxee Box as having a Tegra 2 T20 which is what I was going by.

Well, even the iPad shipped with such glaring omissions as a USB port and camera(s).. and screen pixel density that leaves a lot to be desired. There's also the lack of Flash support, too.

None of these things (except perhaps the screen pixel density) couldn't have been included when the iPad was in development, but Apple decided to leave most of them for the iPad 2.
