Do you think the Intel Extreme Graphics could play Tribes 2, The Sims, Half-Life and War-Craft 3 at 800x600 res, medium quality? That's all i'll be playin most likely.

yes, it will run 4 yr old games 😉

Tnx guys, man I didn't kno i'd get so reamed!

Yet after some hard thinking, I don't rly care too much about that... I figure i'll buy a nice Antec 3700AMB and a MSI Neo-2 Mobo which would be $200 CAD + maybe a 9800 pro or somethin sick when the prices drop and I start gaming.

Better to get $1000 CAD worth of parts for free and have to pay $200 to make it sick then have to pay $1200 of my own cash.

I figure I'll keep : CPU, HD, Ram, CD, Monitor, Windows, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers
+ upgrade graphics, mobo + case/ps when i need to. I won't be playin any new games for a while so it's ok.

Tnx for the help.

$1200??? please, you could make a comparable rig for MUSH LESS i think you are in denial that you got a crappy crappy deal.

Legally speaking, the Windows copy that came with the Dell dies with the Dell. Then again, that is what MS wants you to do, I personally feel different, if I paid for it, I'll use it on whatever comp I want. 🙂

Good point on the Windows XP Home that probably comes with the Dell. Dell uses a Restore CD. you can't install it on any other system as all the DELLS I have seen don't come with a Real Windows XP CD. Only a Restore CD that only will restore to the Dell it was made for.

Argh 2400 sucks way to much I'm using one right now. Intel graphics has tons of incompabitility problems even if the games old a lot of times it won't run (even though the website for the card says it should work fine). Also anything more demanding then gta3 at lowest settings will crush the comp. You basicly paid for a crappy monitor and out of date stock that they wanted to get rid of. My dad bought this thing intending to play some games that appealed to him (among those is doom 3) I could kick the crap out of the guy that sold this to him while I was away.

I hate when people buy electronics or cars for other people without asking. set the rents straight and tell them to talk with you before buying gear.

Return that sucka and get a 4700, or 400SC

Damn good luck returning a car lol

Hah...in CAD with 1200 you can still build a killer system...don't make it sound like Canadian dollars are nothing =P

Wow, that DOES suck! I doubt that even the best PCI card will play DOOM3 at anything but the most minimal settings.

no way to upgrade cheap. If you just get a new mobo your dell psu will fry it. That and you will either have to get a new case or mod the case to fit the new mobo in there since it is a different size than the dell mobo's. PCI video cards are ok if your looking to play half-life at decent settings, but anything after that isn't really that playable. My advise: Sell the dell and buy a decent computer.
The PSU in my Dell Dimension 4550 is a standard ATX PSU. I know this because it has been used in my home built rig with no problems. It's only 230W but it ran it just fine for a temporary set-up.

I have a Intel system with both Intel Extreme Graphics and AGP 4x with 1Gig RAM and 2.53Ghz 533 Bus P4. GTA3 will not play smooth enough at 800x600 with the extreme graphics to even win one mission. If I even install a old Radeon AIW 7500 the game is night and day and very playable. That shows just how bad Extreme Graphics is. The system with a good AGP card flys but with the extreme graphics is for any game I enjoy unuseable.

I don't get why you guys are spazing out... all i have to do is buy a new case + mobo ($200 CAD) and get my friend's old ATI Radeon 9600xt (free) and voila! I have a pretty solid pc.

Do you think that SOB would run Doom 3 @ 800x600 low quality?

Tnx for the help.
