Dell(Sony) P991 19" Trinitron CRT Monitor

Is $279 a good price for this monitor, or should I wait for a good deal on a Samsung 955DF mointor? Is the Trinitron really worth the $80 price difference?

Yes, get it. The Dell P991 is similiar (it not exactly the same as) to the highly rated Sony G400 and Compaq P900.

So YES it's well worth the $80 difference, it's a whole other class of monitor.

The difference will be like night and day, I run mine at 1280x1024@85 (I think that's right) and it works like a champ.

Just make sure you have A LOT of room on your desk and have a strong desk because this is a BEAST, both in size and weight. It's one big mofo but big can sometimes be beautiful, can't it?

If this is the same tube as Sony's g400 you could be in for some frustration. On my g400, the default settings(geometry) were all wrong, took several days adjusting, playing with it to cure the image [ed: too tired to return it] though now it actually quite perfect, LCD-like quality. Sony must not QC their sets.


Want to add, I read so many complaints on the net about the g400 but I personally think these are not a problem of the Sony tube itself(which is lcd quality), BUT that its been VERY slopily calibrated at the factory. The geometry and browning/blue spots of these monitors, which I BOTH had, are correctable but they will require a cruel patiences on the part of the consumer.

Got the Compaq p900. Same thing. It's big and heavy, it has dual inputs, perfect geometry, spectacular color and otherwise 0wns j00.

This P991 doesn't have dual inputs, does it? Dell's site doesn't mention 2 inputs anywhere I can recall. If it did, I'd have to be all over this.
