dot pitch is 0.255. too small. I like 0.297 dot pitch. don't want to be too close to any monitor.

Shiping and tax (if fed tax id or not in same state as wharehouse) I guess there's a code for free shipping.

LCD is different from CRT. Bigger dot pitch (on LCD) means larger font size.

18.1 LCD looks more comfortable than 17" LCD, both at 1280X1024, because of bigger dot pitch.

20 inch is even better.. that's a good price ... I remember like about a year and a half ago.. avg prive for 15 inch was around 900 and 20 inch was like 5000+ .. I think i'll wait for another year... it'll drop down to probably 700 or so...

Huh?
The smaller the dot pitch, the crisper the image.

yeah wtf are you talking about? The bigger dot pitch, the crisper and better the image is. With big dot pitch you can recognize the individual pixels, my lcd has .23 dot pitch and the picture is LOT clearer than any crt ive seen

EDIT: whoops, i meant to say the smaller it is, the better the picture is.

The smaller the DPI, the crisper the image. If you want to make your screen to look bigger all you have to do is reduce the resolution. ie: From 1600 x 1200 to 1024 x 768. In the end the smaller the DPI means a better image and the smaller the resolution, the larger your screen images will look.

I have two of these, I love em. What I liked as an added bonus is, they have not only VGA and DVI, but S-video and component inputs. You have have all 4 inputting to the monitor and switch between them at the touch of a button.

I still like my 21" CRT for gaming. No ghosting whatsoever. You could say that the low response time of some of these LCDs eliminates ghosting, but you'd be wrong.

Don't forget these can do Picture-in-Picture, too. I haven't messed with this yet and not sure how practical it is, but cool none-the-less. 🙂

I paid $500 more than this for an IBM 18" panel 8 months ago (with no regrets). Now is probably the best time to buy, since most experts predict a rise in the price of flat panels in the next year.

ive been using it on just about every game i can think of and it looks fantastic

its input selections are awesome

and the pip is a bonus. ...

plus lugging this sucker around for lan games is a breeze

What you don't see can't annoy you. 🙂 I haven't noticed ghosting at all on this monitor but then again, I haven't sat down to play a game with the expressed intention of looking for ghosting...

To the peeps who have this monitor, how is the scaling for games? I run most of my games at 1024x768 since my rig will not be able to run at good framerates at 1280x1024 or 1600 x 1200.

thanks ahead of time,

thinh

That dot pitch is appealing - but I'll wait for now as I have an 18.1" TFT from NEC...Speaking of prices. It cost around $4500 only 2 years ago...🙂

The monitor looks great to me at 1024x768 in games.

Granted, scaling may differ from LCD to LCD, but, IMHO, the quality is always going to be less than desirable. In your case, I'd upgrade as to run games at 16x12 or get an LCD with a native res of 10x7.

LCDs will always lose some image quality on lower-than-native res but unless you plan to spend all of your time gaming at 1024x768, I'd highy recommend going with as high a res as you can. With the amount of time I spend in windows, it's well worth having 1600x1200. If the type is too small, you an always bump up the font sizes.

YaY ... ive been working at my minimum wage job for a year now so i could spend all $1359.15 of my savings on this LCD!!!!!

...kidding .... i dont even have time to work anymore ... good price

I had this monitor. Figured would replace my viewsonic 22" CRT pf815. I had it for 3 days before I sent the LCD back. 4 dead pixels. But the problem was it was just blurry. I tweaked it to death. Sold it and my viewsonic and bought 2 dell 21" Sony/dells. Wanted black to match my case.

Good luck with it. And just remember i just sent one back. Hope you dont get it.
