DELL shipment question - how long does it take to config and deliver a laptop?

I just custom ordered a laptop from Dell.Ca, and was wondering usually how long it takes for them to process the order and have it sent to my doorstep? Thx.

BTW, here's what I've got:

Dell I-8100
P3-866mhz
15.1" SXGA Display
20Gb hd
256mb SDRAM
32mb Geforce2Go
24x CDROM
etc...

My budget is limited, so I figure that I put the money on the features that cannot be upgraded now, and do the upgrades (DVDROM/CDRW, ram, hd, cpu) later on.

Question too, in the i8100 models, there's 2 modules plus an internal fixed optical drive (in my case, the 24x cdrom), correct? So one of the modules is occupied by the battery? What about the other module? Since the other module doesn't have anything in there, is it just an empty module bracket? Or can I acutally slap a bare dvdrom/battery and slap it into the casing?

Thx.

- Hello, Dell? I was hoping you could tell me how long it will take you to assemble/configure and ship my laptop.

- N days, but could take a little longer.

- Ohh, thanks! I'm so glad I called.

lol, really? I had a friend who ordered one during their busy season and it took close to a month. I'm hoping that's not the norm....

Mine took less than a week back in January.

The second bay is taken up by the floppy drive. You can swap the floppy out for a spare battery or a weight-saving plastic cover (nothing in it).

So, if the floppy is modular, does Dell also have a slide in carrier for a second HDD in that bay? If so, . . . that would get my attention.

doh! forgot all about the floppy drive 😛

same, wondering here also, it'll be nice if the modular bay can accept a hard drive too, instead of yanking out the primary hd and reinstalling everything again, plus losing that extra space.

It took forever for them to build my I8000 back in May. I would never buy from them again. They stole my G2GO when I had it serviced!
