I posted at the end of a "DEAD" thread. Might not get read so I created a new one. Sorry all I took out the links, they work in preview but add a bunch of crap when I submit it and don't seem to work no matter what I do. Do a quick search on the Dell site for the models. Others are on sale too. It looks like the sale on some servers ends midnight 12/01/04

Current Power Edge SC420 is $229 for a Celeron processor, 325J, 2.53GHz, 256KB Cache, 533MHz FSB, 256mb, CD, 40gig sata (+$10 for 80gig), onboard nic. Hmm.

PowerEdge 1600SC is $499 for 2.4 Xeon, free 2x512 RAM, floppy, CD, SCSI controller, 36 gig SCSI 10K drive, 10/100/1000 onboard nic.

Damn, the PowerEdge SC1420 $599. 2.8GHz, 1MB Cache,800MHz Front Side Bus, FREE UPGRADE to 1.0GB DDR2, 400MHz, 2X512 Dual Ranked, 48X CD-ROM, 40gig sata, integrated 10/100/1000

How can I find all this stuff when I am NOT looking for it? Sigh.

Again, apologies on the links everyone, I have been busting my butt setting up Unix system stuff all day, no sleep last night and am very tired.

The SC420 deal doesn't seems to be as hot as the previous one (256mb instead of 512mb for the same price), but still a very good deal none the less.

Update:

FYI, if you click on the "click here to start with the basic configuration" link just above the "system option" you will see the hidden free upgrade to the 512mb. With this upgrade this is now the same old deal we used to see, $274 for 80gb HD and 512mb ram on a celeron 2.53Ghz.

Linkified for the lazy A$$

You can also get free upgrade to 512MB 533MHz.
Same price, same deal just faster RAM.
Don't forget a free keyboard and mouse.

Ken

The 1420 comes with 256, and a free double upgrade to 512MB. It says FREE UPGRADE to 1.0GB DDR2, 400MHz, 2X512 Dual Ranked [add $100 or $2/month1].Clicking on it add $100 to your total. The link to the 1420 deal at $599 is here.

The Dell 420 deal is located here.

Oops, sorry about that. I thought the previous links didn't work because they were wrong, but it turns out my links don't work in Firefox either. At least, how I have it configured. They worked in the preview though... guess I'll have to look into it lol

I refreshed and they work now.. weird

Anyone know when these deals end?

plus has anyone gotten the logitech free mouse to be used with the standard keyboard?

using the first link it didn't work.

Looks like now they have it for $329 but with Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor (80gb drive +$10), but with 256MB Ram - if you add 512 it's $99 extra. Dell has 256MB Module for SC420 $70 if you do a search for SC420 in general site, if you have Dellf coupon for 20% off memory it's around $60 (I assume it's similar 256MB module?).

Keep in mind these SC420's are not really suitable as desktop machines; especially not compared to the old 400SC model. SC420's only have an x8 PCI Express slot, no integrated sound, and difficult-to-disable 8mb ati integrated video.
