Dell Roxio DVD decoder

I'm rebuilding my daughter's old Dell 1501 AMD XP laptop. It's my understanding that her Dell used a Roxio program to playback DVDs in WMP, but I can't find the app either in the install disk (I still have it) or online at Dell's site. They have a Roxio update at Dell, but it's for Vista.

Does anyone have a source for the app that will work, or am I going to have to go to VLC or something?

I don't know if this will help you or not, but you can give it a try (make sure the system is registered with Dell's support site first, even if the warranty is long expired).

Thanks for that... I've been on that exact page that is listed on about 50 times in the past week, but never realized that was there... I kept going to the drivers page. Duh.

Problem is, I can't get it to register the system... :|

Well, that got it working. I had to roll back WMP11 and reinstall it to keep it from crashing, but now it seems to be working.

Thanks for the link... I'm always nervous downloading from an unknown source. Hell, I'm cautious downloading from a KNOWN source!

I've found that the only way to get older systems on the Dell support website is to search by order number or customer number.

Glad to hear you got it working though. If nothing else, you ought to be able to pick up a cheap OEM DVD player software package just about anywhere for $10 or less.

AHHHHHH!!!! D😀😀: 10 DOLLARS?!?!? My mom won't let me spend that much money at any one time...

I have all 5 Dells I'm responsible for registered on my account, it goes through the registration process and then says my computer isn't supported. I tried it with my older Dell 6000 laptop and it did the same thing. I could probably try to contact Dell but it's working now... :\

Was it worth going through all that hassle, instead of just using VLC/SMplayer/PotPlayer, like most of the planet does???

WMP, Roxio and proprietary Dell software... *shudder*
