Dell Re-installation cd

I recently purchased a Dell inspiron notebook with XP Media Center OS and paid for the re-installation cd.

Now i haven't recieved my notebook yet, but I'm most certain there will be junk software that i'll want to get rid of. Will the re-installation cd install that unwanted software back onto my computer if i choose to reload the OS? Also, are there any risks in doing this, or would just using the add/remove programs option in the control panel be a safer option?

My experience with OEM ware is that bundled applications are included on a separate CD from the OS Restore.

I would wait and see what is installed. Then I would uninstall what I didn't want and go from there. That way all your Dell drivers will be working properly.
 
Dell usually will provide an actual OEM copy of Windows, slightly modified
to that it checks for a Dell BIOS and also does not require you to enter
the Product Code or Serial Number ... they also provide a Drivers and Utiltiies
CD which everything needed for your model computer .. other apps that are
Dell Specific are on seperate CDS .... sometimes they send you CDS for stuff
you ordered, like Office or Photoshop, etc ... if you do order these programs
preinstalled from DELL (overpriced however) I would suggest that you insist
on them providing the CD'S in case they need to be reinstalled for whatever reason
 
Good point corkyg, I was considering how a re-install could possibly mess with the drivers, even if a driver's cd is included. I'll probally take your advice and just uninstall what I don't need, though it's good to know I always have the option to do a fresh install in case anything serious happens. Thanks for your help guys.
 
reinstallation disc will only install media center edition.

dont know about recent revision of windows, but earlier ones did not come with some of the drivers. either use the driver disc dell sends or download the most recent ones and load them onto a usb drive and transfer.
