So Blain's post the other day got me thinking, would the X3360 (or x3370) work in my BTX dell precision T3400?

Slap in a Xeon X3360 and hit the ground running on four cores.

The BIOS was updated in 2012 (running A14), and I know dell added support for 45nm quad core CPUs in BIOS updates, not sure if it was the "regular" CPU's though, such as the Q9650, and thus excluding the X3360.

Probably not worth the $120 to jump from 2.4Ghz 8MB L2 to 2.8Ghz 12MB L2....

It's like I've gone back in time with this post...

Anyway, if you think you might know feel free to let me know, just looking for the cheapest way to try and upgrade without spending over 100-150 bucks.

EDIT: the motherboard specifically is the Dell OTP412

It should work fine, you could get those Precisions with Xeons. The X3360 and X3370 are just Xeon Yorkfields.

All the documents I saw from dell pointed to Q9650 and that sort, mentioned Core2duo, Core2quad, and core2quad extreme, but fair enough. I will look into it.
