Dell PowerEdgeTM SC420

I keep tossing around the idea of using one of these for my media serving at home. But, is this the model you can't add a video card to? I will need to be able to add a video card with s-video out in it. I'll also want to add a sound card.
Looking to replace an old 1 Ghz P-3.

anyone have a good/decent soundcard that they could use with it? I read the faq and it says it only supports 5V PCI cards.

For $10, you can bump it up to the 80GB SATA drive...

If you're going to use it as a small home server, might not be a bad upgrade for $10.

these are not mine, I just bookmarked it a while back. I know there is a forum out there for the sc420 to be turned into x16

Guys, I would try to find a Dimension 4700 in Dell Outlet, they have full 16x PCIe slots, and come well loaded. I've picked up 10 of them in the past 8 hours.

I saw the same ad for free processer upgrade. That would be the tipping point for me. But I can't seem to find a way to make it work.

Looks like shipping will be free. Update your shipping by going to 'estimate your shipping...' and choose the lowest cost option.....

Need that CPU upgrade!!!!!

I called Dell, they say that the link we are using is in 'Outrageous Deals', and is already taking into account another $100 discount.
If you follow the links thru dell.com to the 'regular' SC420, you will see the free CPU upgrade, but no $20 MIR.

Check out the last couple of pages of this thread.

Lowest found was $64 shipped 🙂

My 10+ averaged $300 each, but had a lot more options than these 420's. P4's, 512MB ram, dvd burners, some with Office 2003, all different config's.

You will have to beat the scripters to get a decent deal. Good luck!

It is hard to find these when you have people buying 10+ a day to put them on ebay. :|

Back to the original thread........
I ordered two of these servers with free shipping yesterday.
I just got a shipping confirmation email this morning. Pretty quick.
