You can sell the 256MB stick it comes with and use standard DDR2. That is expensive as well though. Check the FAQ..it is pretty helpful.

EDIT: BTW - thanks Rasputinj...bought one stock but I upgraded to 80GB.
 
Just got on this deal... been waiting for these kinds of prices for a while.

Only wished I'd gotten in when they were doing sales for SC400s with the AGP slot and all.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I also upgraded to the 80 gig drive for $10. And as usual, dont forget to add the free keyboard and mouse.

Aack. I believe the guy that runs that is a member named Oliver. He supports those forums as a community service and surely didn't deserve to be hacked. I hope he has a back-up somewhere.
Odd to me that the hacked page says

Im seeing a free upgrade to a 2.8 P4 and 5$ upgrade to the 80gig

but the coupon is entered right im just not getting any extra % off

Actually, they gave me a free processor upgrade after I ordered since there were offering it yesterday while this was going on as well. Especially since this sc420 deal wasn't an Outrageous deal or anything, the only downside is it will be delayed a week but oh well.. 🙂

This sucks. I couldn't get the code to work yesterday. I get yelled at by the person I was suppose to get it for because i didn't get it and now people are saying it did work for them!!!

The deal is actually better now.

changes are 512mb of Ram instaed of 256 for the same price
Only $5 extra for an 80 GB hard drive.

Hmm..I can only get it to $343 using the previous config and the "free" 512MB upgrade...guess it isn't really free.

If anyone wants to dump a stick of 256MB DDR2 ECC, PM me! You can use regular RAM on this.

Any updates on the video card thing? They have a disclaimer stating they don't support video cards on this system now and the last time I read that forum (faq link) there were folks claiming they changed the slot so it's more difficult to mod.... can't get to it now to validate. Does it have standard PCI slots in it? For sound card or 'unsupported but no-mod' add-ons?


 
Yeah new deal is better..wow. Too late to cancel my order..oh well. $5 for the 80GB upgrade and free upgrade to 512MB..not bad!

Still looking for 256MB ECC sticks if anyone wants to sell theirs. 🙂
 
Got a great deal on this after even after I ordered. I called up Dell and ask them about getting the free processor upgrade that was available 12/21 and also today's double your memory upgrade. They gave it to me without much of a fuss. They were very understanding, surprisingly.

So I basically got a P4 2.8, 512MB DDR2 ECC ram, 80gb sata, etc for around $250 after tax.
 
Wow..that is pretty lucky. I spoke to a CSR and they denied me on everything. I told them I was going to ship it back then and they were fine with that..lol. Ordered a new one today...

When did you order it?

I ordered mine yesterday and it said it would ship 12/30.

It looked like they are able to cancel orders while it's in "In Production" status.
 
just got mine the other day. super fast turn around time on shipping.

installed xp sp2 on it. and it runs like a champ

2 questions for people, can anyone help?

1) The floppy drive (or lack of it). I tried to install a floppy i had lying around but the drive rails have holes that don't match my floppy. has anyone else run into this? Looks like the rails would match a hard drive though.

2) Sound card - I installed an Ensoniq Audio PCI (creative compatible chipset) and it detect fine, but doesn't seem to be working. Is it possible the sc420 only supports specific sound cards?

btw.. deal is back.. even cheaper now $224 no coupon, no rebate, free ship, no tax (for me, in CT).. can get w/1GB RAM for $333, add $10 for a 80gb SATA

I'd say this is even hotter!
