DELL PowerEdge SC1430 Dual QUADS - $729

pretty good. $20GB for the 160GB upgrade from 80gb is probably worth it if you consider the price/gb ratio
no optical drive, you can spring for a cheap one on newegg, etc though

can this use non-ECC non buffered RAM DIMMs?

? Two 64-bit, 100-MHz PCI-X expansion slots, two x8 lane (electrically wired for x4 lanes) PCI Express
(PCIe) expansion slots, and one 32-bit, 33-MHz legacy PCI expansion slot
? An integrated VGA-compatible video subsystem with an ATI ES1000, 33-MHz PCI video controller.
This video subsystem contains a minimum of 16MB of graphics memory with support for 2D graphics.
Maximum resolution is 1600x1200 with 65,536 colors; true-color graphics are supported in the
following resolutions: 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024

as per dell website doc.

Guess whatever you can fit into those x8/x4 slots

oh... and for anyone that wants to know... I've got a radeon 1550 PCI-e x1 video card in this and it runs fine.

LOL 🙂

Will XP or Vista even use the 2nd cpu?

Prob be a good idea to get the 3-year warranty for $129 more.

Will need to add cd/dvd drive, floppy, keyboard, mouse, hd, video.

5 total I/O slots
2 PCI Express slots (x4 with x8 connectors)
2 64-bit/100MHz PCI-X slots 3.3V, 1 32-bit/33MHz PCI slot 5V
One full height, full length slot; Remaining slots are full height, half length

This system looks better than the Inspiron or XPS.

yes... but its more dependend on the application that you are running... Seti Runs on all 8 cores.

if your question was will xp or vista recognize the second cpu... the answer to that question would be yes also.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit on it.... I did buy more ram from newegg though... oh... and this comes with a 750 watt power supply too.
