Dell poweredge 500sc with celeron

watts3000

Senior member
just bought a dell 500sc to run as a web server that will serve static and asp pages and possible exchange and ftp server the system has a celeron 1.10cpu 2 10000rpm 18 gig scsi's and 640megs of pc133 ram expandable to 2gigs. I'm supposed to receive the system today. I just looked on dells web site and now you can get a p3 1.13 gigahertz cpu for the same price I paid for the celeron do you guys think its worth the trouble to send it back and

if you have to pay for the shipping.. it might not be... talk to one of those csr, sometimes, they'll do it for free..

watts, i have the same bad luck....if you do plan on sending it back you might as wait a little longer so that you can wait for the next faster chip and then prepare to send that machine back for the next faster chip... 😛

I'd change it. The Celeron 1.1 looks like the .18u Coppermine, 128K cache, 100 MHz FSB type. The PIII 1.13 is a PIII-S Tualatin (S as in Server). 512k cache, 133 MHz FSB, .13u. It will be much faster, and run cooler to boot.

Guys I went ahead and sent it back this afternoon I paid for shipping but the dell rep said after they recieve the item shipping will be credicted back to my credict card. Anyway I installed 2000 server and set iis up on the machine. You guys were right it was slow as hell. At that point I called in for a rma. I'm actually thinkung about building my server.
