I thought that you can buy Dell PowerEdge 400SC even if you are not a business!?
I called in and they made it sound like you have to have a business and tax number??

What is the trick?

you don't need a tax number...at least, not when I ordered from Small Business. I think that's only if you want to write it off.

Note that taxes on Dell Small Business are really quite high.

What do you mean by:"Note that taxes on Dell Small Business are really quite high. "

If the total is $449 how much would be tax?

just use your name as the business

tax should be whatever your sales tax is for your state

also select not for resale when ordering or something like that

Question for anyone who knows the 400SC really well... does it use Intel CSA Gigabit LAN, or just plain-vanilla PCI-based gigaLAN? I emailed Dell about a month ago, but the reply from their sales team was that they didn't know and would try to find someone that did. Ironic that they'll go to the extent of telling us the maximum storage altitude (oh good, it can be stored at a maximum altitude of 35000 feet... I was worried about that  ) but not the details of its chipset implementation...

:frown:

My main rig is a Dell Poweredge 400SC with a P4 2.6C processer, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, Audigy 1, Leadtek TV2000XP Deluxe TV turner card, Plextor PX-708A DVD burner and 1-WD 80GB SE HDD and 1-WD 120GB SE HDD.

The PE400SC mobo is an OEM Intel Canterwood (i875) mobo with built in CSA GbLan and onboard sound and 6 rear USB 2.0 ports.

Thanks :) You've been more help than Dell.
