Hi guys i've got a Dell 4.500, pentium4, 2,2ghz ,1,g mem ram, 80g hd, what linux distro is good for it?
Lubuntu
Crunchbang
Bodhi
Xubuntu
Thanks I did install Debian Wheezy 7 ,you Think any of those will run better?
Not really. It pretty much comes down to the desktop, and programs you run. I wouldn't use anything heavier than Xfce on that machine, but you could try Lxde and E17 to see how you like the performance and features. They're both lighter than Xfce.
Also consider Manjaro![]()
I've been playing around with Linux Lite, it feels snappy on an old AMD 3800+ machine I have. It is based on 12.04 LTS as well.

Thanks Alex: for the suggestion but i did install Xubuntu 12.04LTS,
it installs everything i need out of the box, and it's long time support
and i like that, also I'm used to it, to tell you the Truth i rather use UBUNTU distros, i tried mint,Debian,on my main pcs and end up going back with Ubuntu and Xubuntu long time support Distros.
I moved away from any and all Ubuntu based distros. Too unstable, and buggy for me. And with Ubuntu pretty much going in the exact opposite direction of just about every other distro out there, I want something that is as "standardized" as possible, if thats the right word. And Manjaro is a rolling release, so it has a long term support system by default, and you never have to reinstall. Plus I like PACMAN more than apt-get personally. And I just flatout do not trust Canonical, they are becoming the Microsoft of Linux.
I use gnome Classic on my i5 main desktop , not Unity,
some distro may work right on some computers and may be glitchy on others, i have tried the top Distros on my machines and came to the conclusion that ubuntu and xubuntu are the best for my computers,so what works good on your machine might not work as good on mine.
I hear thats the case with alot of people. Have you tried it though, just in case?
No i never tried it, but if you looked at Distro Watch, is not even part of the top 10

I seems to fluctuate, a few weeks ago, it was number 4 on the list for the last 7 days. Right now its number 8 over 6 months.
If you want to make a very tuned installation which only has the precise components you need and nothing else, there's always Arch. Just be prepared to spend 2 months getting it all working!
Well I'm happy with Linux Mint14 Nadia for the time being, this Dell Demention 4500 seems to like it,and it runs smoothly,
till it starts to give me trouble I'll keep it,
I don't like to work much when it comes to installs,i prefer the easy way,
when a Distro starts to have glitches i prefer to make clean install or just try other Distro, then to try to repair it software wise .That's why i love Linux compared to Windows OPS.I have a Dozen Distros ready to go.
