Well, My old IBM P202 died and even though it still has over 6 months left on the 3 year warrantly, IBM will not fix it. It seems like I need a proof of purchase in other to have a valid warranty, and I lost mine while moving to my new appartment. Anyhow, I don't think there's anything I can do to convince them to take take the monitor back and repairig a 2 and a half year old CRT on my own for few hundred bucks without any future warranty is out of the question. Anyway that brings me to my original point ...

I've been offered a deal on a Dell P1110 monitor, it's refurb, but still has 2 years left on the warranty. The price is $359, which seems pretty nice, anyone feels like commenting about the performace ( visual and otherwise ) of this monitor?

2 Year warranty from Who? If its a referb, Dell isn't going to honor that... If the referb company is offering the 2 year warranty, then maybe.....

Dell is especially picky about only giving warranty to the orignal purchaser...

That's one question that I'll be asking them, but don't concern yourself with that ... I have the P202 experiences fresh in my mind and won't fall into "virtual warranties", "limited liability", etc traps. I'd like to hear some opinions about the monitor itself.

It's nice. Max resolution something like 1920x1440 or something insanely high. I just use 16x12 w/ 85Hz, it's nice and clear and perfectly flat. It's also got two imputs and a switch on front, so you can use your server without having to have another monitor sitting around dedicated to it.

For 360 dollars I'd say it's worth it, as long as it works right.

Hmm I ran it with a 3dfx card and it wasn't exactly sharp for text, but graphics it was perfect. Now if you own an nvidia card I would be weary at higher resolutions. It was readable for me at 1600, but definitely not on the "LCD like" clear text side...if you have an nvidia I would watch out with it. Though, I'm running an ati radeon on a really crappy monitor beside me and it looks crystal clear - so I do think it's mostly about your video card.

Good enough that my less than perfect eyesite can read even 8 point text (which is about 3mm tall) quite well. Also I'm using a V5, so YMMV. I'm so used to using 1600x1200 that going to anything lower is almost painfull (unless it's a small[er] monitor).

well, the P1110, I was looking at, has a defect on the CRT ( i could care less for any other problems, but CRT has to be perfect ) ... anyway to make a long story short, I'm typing this message on a Sony G500 ( same price ), The text clarity is unreal. I have my old P202 and a brand new Gateway 22" faltscreen at work, to compare , and this monitor spanks both of them hands down. The company, I bought it from, is local and they give a 3 year warranty on it, the key is that they are 20 min. away from me, so I can dop by at any time if there's a problem. They also have 30 day return policy ( I hope I won't have to utilize it, since this monitor is like a dream :) ). There's a belmish ( missing paint above the Trinitron logo, but that's a bout it as far as I can tell ). So far I'm very happy.
