dell notebook reputation?

i'm interested in purchasing the dell notebook but after seeing so many negative reviews about dell in epionions.com and other sites, i'm afraid it's not worth it. any opinions?
 
my dell is fine, support has been adequate

we also get tons of dells at work (MIT) and they generally focus on stuff that lasts and has a good warrenty.
 
I just got a 5100 a few weeks ago. I must admit that I have been very impressed. I even like the touchpad.
 
My 5100 is on it's way as we speak...Everyone that I told about getting one has said nothing but praises...I can't wait till it is in my grasp...
