0 dead pixels, no backlight problem (that I can see) :)

That's good to hear. I hope it has no or minimal ghosting in games too.

And welcome to the forums. :)

Apparently my monitor (which was shipped yesterday) is coming from Austin, which is only about 70 miles away from San Antonio. The tracking indicates it's out for delivery today already. :D

Well, just got off the phone with Dell. I received my new monitor yesterday ( Made in Mexico Rev A01, manufactured in Dec 2004), at least 6 stuck pixels with a slight backlighting issue. They are sending a replacement ASAP, well within 3-5 business days. Hopefully I will get a good one this time around!!

Also the Dell rep just told me that UPS will be picking up my old monitor at same time they are delivering the new one, does this sound right?

It depends...that certainly could be the case, if they're shipping out your replacement via UPS. The last two times I've ordered a monitor from Dell though, it's been sent via DHL - and when I had to send both CRT's back (the original and a replacement), UPS picked them up.

I just got mine, and I'm loving it. Although I have one stuck green pixel near the middle of the screen, and some backlight issues, which I think may warrant my talking with Dell about a replacement.

However, my question is this:

I am having a strange issue I haven't seen mentioned anywhere yet. I tried using the dead pixel tester page at http://www.gdargaud.net/Hack/DeadPixels.html, and noticed that when I click on any of the links to display the full-screen test, the entire image is in motion! It's hard to explain, but I think the easiest thing to think of is television snow. Thousands of lines, moving up and down. I try looking at the same page on my laptop computer's LCD screen, and it is completely static.

My question is: Do I have a bum Dell widescreen, or is this a problem with this monitor or the technology in general?

Thanks,
-Jason-

Is it connected via DVI (white card output) or VGA (blue)? You'd really want DVI at that high a resolution.

VGA--My video card does not have a DVI out.

I just got mine yesterday (A01, Mexico) and I too have a stuck green subpixel near the middle of the screen - and a stuck white one at the very top. However, the backlighting seems good (not perfect obviously, but probably as good as an LCD is going to get), and I'm relatively satisfied with the improvement in ghosting over the 2001FP. I can even run this at 1680x1050 @ 75Hz and it seems to make things a little smoother too.

I'm not sure if I want to have them send me a replacement because of the dead pixels or not. I guess I have a week or two to decide...

That's likely your problem. Seems a shame to drive such a nice digital monitor with an analog output. I'd look into a card with good DVI output. (Both ExtremeTech and TomsHardware have done DVI compliance articles that shows how various nVidia and ATi cards fare with high-res DVI signals.)

Revision A01, January 2005

I wonder what the A01 revision really means... From the description of your 2005FPW

(A01, Mexico) and I too have a stuck green subpixel near the middle of the screen - and a stuck white one at the very top. However, the backlighting seems good (not perfect obviously, but probably as good as an LCD is going to get)

That's pretty much how I would describe my A00, except I only have one stuck green subpixel. Backlighting is present, but not bad. Doesn't really sound like getting am A01 gets you a better screen. Either way, I'm happy with mine. IMO, the 2005FPW is the best LCD for the money right now. Glad that you are happy with your 2005FPW :)

A01, Jan 2005 = worse backlighting than the original, and there are 2 green pixels that are stuck. I shall try the rub and pray, even though the backlighting isn't any better, just so that whoever ends up getting this might have a dead pixel free monitor. I'm happy with my original monitor now; it seems that I'm more of a stickler for dead pixels than I am for poor backlighting. I wish everyone luck.

I sure hope mine turns out good, ordered a replacement today.

When everyone says backlight issue, do you mean the backlighting is bad in general, or backlight bleed through, because there is a difference?

Should be on the back of the monitor, probably on the right side.
