I ordered on 1/3/05 and it said in "Pre-Production" with an estimated ship date of "on or before 1/7/2005"
yesterday, at 10pm, i received an email changing the ship date to "on or before 1/14/2005
it's STILL in pre-production!!

Well I must be the luckiest man alive...
I just got my second 2005 two days ago and just unpacked it.
Another perfect one, albeit minimal backlighting bleed in the top right hand corner....
But let me say this, I have NEVER noticed any of the backlight problems before reading these message boards and then going out of my way to discover them.
After reading all about these issues, I turn out all the lights and throw on a dead pixel tester app running on the black screen and then I notice some bleed on all my flat panels, everything from a Dell 2001, to a Viewsonic, to my Thinkpad A20p, to my two other laptops....
So I truly don't think it's that big of an issue.... Unless of course you can notice the problem with the lights on.
Anyways, just wanted to report, that my wife was so happy with the quality of my first one, she told me to order a second one for the bedroom so she can watch movies in bed on the thing.
I'm probably just going to hook up a DVD PLayer to it and the Bose Wave radio (I might put a cheap HTPC in there for TV Tuning) and just be done with it.
But this is the second one in as many weeks that have 0 dead pixels.
Just thought I would drop a message in the forum touting that there are people out here getting great monitors!

Heh, ummm. I ordered 1/3/05. around 5pm i believe with an expected ship date of 1/7/05. It shipped out at 10:27:00 AM on 1/7/05. Odd that mine would ship and you alls wouldn't. Only thing I can think of that i did different was to call and complain of the price dropping $45 the day after I ordered it (and following that day, the price jumped back up.... jitttery w/ those prices aren't they?) . They gave me a # and said it would be credited to me.

The reason for this is they are finishing up the newer revisons with less backlight leakage problems. Rev01 will be the newer version so for just a few days of waiting you will be happier in the long run.

has anyone received these "new" monitors?
You know, like an idiot (and I should known better), I read the entire thread of from the Dell board that the you are referring to, expecting to see some actual concession that there is a problem. However, if one reads that Dell board (not this one) very carefully, you will see that the so called voice of Dell on this subject is only echoed through Jesse. If you read all of Jesse's statments very carefully, you will be hard put to say that he actually acknowledges that there is an actual defect or problem in the manufacture of the 2005, nor can you say that he ever affirms there is a REV that was or is or will be intended to fix anything related to bleed. What he does say is that the "engineers" (and folks, anybody is an engineer - why I myself was once called a sales engineer), what Jesse does say is that the "engineers" say the replacements are fine. That's not an actual concession of fix. It's just a statement that the replacments are fine, nothing more than that. That's surely NOT going out on a limb and saying there was a problem and Dell has fixed it.
I guess one can say there will be always be new Revs or at least a new manufacturing date on the build. But as far as saying we have a new situation with a fix on this, I don't see anything of the sort even remotely being said anywhere.
I can tell you one other thing, The rumor has officially been launched in multiple places that there already is an acknowledged problem and a fix on the way. Such rumors have the power to create their own ... well, you can't use the word "reality" but you know what I mean, they have the power to make you believe they are true even when they completely false. In other words, at some point, it becomes not only useless to deny such rumors, but impossible, and even harmful to Dell. When that point is reached, it behooves Dell to pretend that rumor is real, even when it is not, because at that point, there will be many who never will believe it wasn't real in the first place. At that point, Dell will be forced to just say, yeah, there was a problem and we've fixed it. We can send out a new monitor to anyone who qualifies (with the 21 day new equipment replacement). That way, the monkey is put to rest, even though it was only a rumor that couldn't be denied.
Of course, I fully believe that some people have a worse problem with this bleed through than others. I also fully believe that it really bothers the heck out some people who truly do have the problem. I also believe that there is a quantity of people who don't have a serious problem and have been made to feel their monitors should be perfectly black from all angles, and who feel that have a dud, and now want and expect a non-existent perfect monitor. However, I don't see any proof that there is an acknowledged problem, and, of course, at this point, as I have been implying, I wonder, at this point, if we can ever know for certain what the real story is.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't have said anything. But now, don't you think we have reached the point were it's going to be impossible to know for sure?
