Dell new 20" wide LCD 2005FPW. Has anyone seen this beast?

Well, you don't sound like a serious 3D card gamer to me. You might look at the Matrox P-650 which can be had for about $169.95, I believe from a variety of sources. Dual monitors is their thing (or even 3-monitors ... as in the 750 ... though it's only two computer monitors at a time ... the third is for video apps). Of course, the 750 is about $230. The best deal for 2 monitor ... Photoshop and office work seems to be tghe Maxtro 650. It's available in both AGP and in PCI Express. Sounds like you need the AGP. It's worth a look anyway, given your uses.

My 2005FPW just came today in the mail! WOOHOO! Sister just called me, I will inspect when I get home tomorrow night!

You are right, but a cost/performance ratio between LCD and CRT is like comparing apples to oranges. The main point is that LCD is replacing CRT in the marketplace regardless of the naysayers.

I just saw that the 2005 is on sale at $639. Could I use a 25% coupon to further reduce the price to $479? That sounds almost too good to be true.

It is to good to be true :p I was about to get pissed because I ordered this monitor 2 days ago and I paid $588 and thought that it was a great deal.

so everyone hea agresss that the 2005fpw is a god moniter for gaming .. with tha 12ms and not ghostiing and def a VRY nice moniter for movies ? .. please let me know so i can goahead and buy one :)

the native res. is really high which will take its toll on your vid card. I wonder how it scales down?

How does it perform in games? I have an X800se (128mb that came with the dell) right now and there's not too many reviews comparing this card to others.

When I got the 2005fpw I noticed considerable performance drops in any games at 1280x768, and the next res down is 7somethingx4something which doesn't look so hot on a monitor this big. I wish there was a middle ground in the 10somethingxsomething range but alas...

I was wondering how the 6600gt would fair driving this monitor. I also wanted an nvidia for the better linux support.

Mainly looking for your impression in Doom3 and Half-life2 if you have those games. Thanks for any input you can give.

A couple of weeks ago, Best Buy had an offer where you could buy a BFGTech6800OC with HL2 and FarCry for $220 after rebate. I don't know if the offer is still good, but you might want to look into that. I think you'll get better performance with a normal 6800 over the 6600GT.

when i recieve the card... i'll let you guys know. I got it for the dual head dvi... I dont really go nuts on games so i think the 6800 might have been overkill for me. but too late anyways... i bought it already... haha

Well, after reading this forum and looking at Ackmed's comparison pics more than once, I decided to to go with a 2005FPW myself. $554 shipped from Dell. Thanks to everyone for their opinions and input. It should be over a week before I get mine, but I'll post on how I like it when I get it.

Is it possible to play TV on this beast w/out a tv tuner. Like from your cable connection. How could u do it with cable or even on satellite. I'd like to know. Thanks!

is it quiet or loud? in both regular use (i.e. just browsing the internet, idle) and intense use (high-gfx games)

i've heard its really loud . . . but could you say HOW loud?

Actually its quite easy, just use a VCR to output the pictures to the 2005fpw and use the VCR to output the sounds to a receiver or powered speakers or something.
You can get a VCR/DVD combo player these days for $60-$100.

The problem is you are not going to get very good TV pictures full screen.
It seems that the monitor blow up any pictures to fill the screen and it is somewhat blurry closeup.
Even with DVD, it is still blurry close up.
6 feet out, DVD pictures look good or if you use the monitor mainly for computer and the PIP screen for the TV, it look good also.
Its just when you use the full screen to display TV pictures or DVD , it doesn't look as good.

All curret Dell "Ultrasharp" panels, including this one, are made by BenQ. So if BenQ also makes Apple's LCD's, then yes, they're probably the same panel.
