dell monitors

Right now there are alot of deals on lcd monitors from dell. While the 19" monitor is normal, the 20.1" widescreen one is out too.

I am debating waiting for the 20.1" normal lcd or getting the widescreen one.

Are there any differences between widescreen and normal.

Will the change in resolution affect gaming?
Is the only use widescreen for HD?

Certain games do not support widescreen, such as Battlefield 2. I use the 2001FP and i have noticed no ghosting with it.

So do the 19 Dell lcd's have the same problem with backlight bleeding or is it only with some of the wide screen models?

Everytime I read a thread on LCDs it makes my lean toward CRTs more and more. LCDs still seem too have to many problems with Dead Pixels and Bleeding and who knows what other issues. Am i wrong here?

P.S. i myself have also been researching the Dell 2005FPW. Hmmm...... Makes ya think

The 2005 is a GORGEOUS monitor. As with all electronics there is a possibilty for defects. You also have to take into account the shear number of 2005s that are out there and take all the complaints with a grain of salt. Mine was even a refurb and it is beautiful. Only time I notice anything approachine backlight bleed is in total darkness with a black screen and I force myself to really LOOK for it. If I am just going about my business I never even see it.

I had the same decision to make 9 months ago and chose the widescreen 2005fpw. I found that it was an awesome choice and I am still loving it to this day. In fact, whenever I used a non-widescreen LCD I feel like something is missing....

For gaming it's great. No one will argue that if ALL you do is game and you have tons of money, a 22" CRT is still the absolute best for gaming. However, if you want to do anything else, especially any web surfing, the LCD is a better choice. At least IMO...
The decision between widescreen and normal is not so easy. There are alot of games that don't support widescreen and a lot that do, so it's a toss up. I force BF2 to run in widescreen but doing some streching and for me it works great. I actually have a hard time playing it when it is not slightly streched... go figure.

My friend was buying an lcd just before me and made the other choice and got the 2001fp. He loves it and when he sees mine is still very happy with his choice. It's all about what you do and what you want, you can't really go wrong with either. I love the widescreen for movies, he loves the normal for more desktop space (1600x1200 has more space than 1680x1050). I prefer the widescreen for games, he prefers the normal for games.

As I said, you can't really go wrong. So many people have this screen or similar now it should be easy to find a place where you can look at one or the others. Good luck!

PS I am now looking at getting the dell 24" widescreen and replacing my sony 15" LCD with the 2005 as my second monitor. Dual widescreen goodness... heh heh.
