I know the Dell is based on the Lexmark, but can they use the same toner cartridges? Buying a cartridge from Office Depot would beat ordering one from Dell.

Lexmark T630 series is the sister printer to the Dell m5200n. The cartridges are physically the same. You can not interchange these cartridges because the chip is different on each. If you put a lexmark chip on the dell version cartridge then yes it will work in a dell. One important note that some chips are different even on cartridges of the same printer. There are different yield cartridges that you can obtain. We name then in the laser cartridge industry as these possible situations: Starter cartridge, standard or low yield, high yield, and in some cases extra high yield. Each type has a chip that knows what yield it is so I stops printing at a certain amount of pages. Also on these cartridges is an encoder wheel that must match the chip. Sometimes one encoder wheel will work with multiple chips. Sometimes the encoder wheel and or chip is different due to prebate and non-prebate. There are aftermarket chips but the code in the chip must be able to handle the firmware in located in the engine board of the printer. This firmware can be updated and make an aftermarket chip not function. All this mess is done to throw remanufacturers off as much as they can.

Edited:

Also about the encoder wheel. This is attached to a shaft that runs inside the toner hopper included with agitators that keeps the toner from settling. There is also a tension mechanism that sense how much toner is inside. The more toner, means more tension. Is is possible to confuse the printer if you put too much toner in a cartridge that has a low yield chip or such. It would cause some sort of invalid refill error. Normally when refilling you would need to put the correct gram load in. Also its not a good idea to fill these particular cartridges full anyway because the shafts I spoke of above are not as strong as the ones in the Optra S and Optra T series days. It will cause the shafts to break especially if there is not enough flow agents in the aftermarket toner you buy.
