I have a Dell Latitude D610 and opted for the Radeon x300 graphics adaptor. When running under battery power the screen will "flicker" or "flash" for a period of about 10 seconds to indefinitely when I attempt to run video under windows media player, adobe photoshop and others. Google Earth will cause infinite flashing when I try to start it under battery power, but when I plug in the ac it will start working. I checked the dell forums and saw a few other people were having similar issues trying to run video in power point. It seems like a driver issue or such that has not been corrected yet - I have updated to the latest drivers.
What I want to know is if the answer I got from Dell's tech support was bogus or not. They told me at first that the problem was that my battery was not charged enough. I wrote them back and told them that it still occured when my battery was 100% charged, and that I had 2 different batteries that I had tried it with and still encountered the same problem. I was then told
"the batteries are designed to provide optimal power to your system and in case of graphic intensive programs or programs which require high resources the battery will not provide required power for the smooth running of the softwares/programs.
So it is normal that when the system is running on battery power there will be reduction in the system performance."
I am very surprised by this answer. Either I have been ignorant of the fact that laptops simply will not run many popular programs such as windows media player and adobe photoshop under battery power, or it seems like they are giving me the run around. Advice from people moew knowledgable would be appreciated.
