The Dell:

P3 1.0ghz
512mb
14 inch
30 gig

The IBM:

P3 800
256mb
14 inch
20 gig

The Dell has built in wireless, IBM has extra batteries (i think one is swappable). I'm thinking the Dell is better but lemme know what you think. Also, I'm asking because I'm offering up my Gateway solo 600ygr (P4 M 16.ghz, 256ddr, 15 inch, 20gig). Should I ask for money and the laptop for trade, or are they about even?

The Dell will be faster (obviously), but from what I've seen the Latitude C6x0 series has lousy build quality, whereas the IBM ThinkPad T2x series is built like a tank.

C6x0 series uses thin plastic casing and shallow, rattling keyboards

T2x series has titanium composite plastic casing and very sturdy internal structure and a decent keyboard (though not as good as the T40). I've seen T21 and T23 machines and they are built to last.

Well, I owned a Dell C510, and it was a pretty decent machine.

It was not IBM solid... obviously, but the built quality was not all that bad. Easy to live with... IMHO.

The plastic did flex a lil though...
