I was thinking of getting a Inspiron 8200 and have a few questions

1. is it upgradable? CPU? VIDEO CARD?
2. Is it worth getting Dell®UltraSharp compraed to just UXGA?
3. I was thikning of getting SXGA+ but the native resolution on that is 1400x1050 but will i have to run games at 1400x1050 to make it look right? and if so do games support that resolution?
4. If i got the UXGA or the DELL ULTRASHARP screen would running games in like 800x600 look bad? Or would i have to run the games in 1600x1200
5. Im looking at dell atm but any other manufactures you guys could recommend. I want a desktop replacement basically :)

thanks

games should look fine on the TFT... its text that looks bad at non-native resolutions.

some of the components are upgradable, vid card etc, but current upgradability in the 8000 line doesn't mean there will be future upgradability.

ultrasharp is brighter and has wider viewing angle, i'm guessing it eats batteries.

1) Yes to both (expensive)
2) I have no idea. I had an UXGA on my Inspiron 8100 and it was sharp enough for me.
3) Don't get anything under UXGA
4) Not really, I ran games at all different resolutions, I never really noticed the difference. You could enable AA to make it look better.
5) If you want a desktop replacement, Dell is the way to go.

Kyguy is right for the most part but I disagree with #3. I have the SXGA+ screen and I couldn't be happier with it. I hardly ever run it at native resolution and I think it looks fine at lower resolutions. I can not see spending $100-200 more for a higher resolution I will never use.

Also, I'd like to add that it is VERY easy to work in. I've completely disassembled mine twice with no problem. Replacing the video card and CPU are very simple. Not much worse than a desktop. I highly recommend the I8200.

And one more idea...but it "used" because like new automobiles, these things depreciate in value by 10-20% as soon as you open the box. Every one that I have purchased used from a reliable AT Forum seller has been cheaper and worked great. That way, forget the upgrade, just buy another used one when you get tired of it and save a bundle.
