Dell Laptop Upgrade any one have any idea?

I'm way past my warranty on my Dell Inspiron 7500. I've done some exploration and found that the video card is upgradeable. I know they have GeForce laptop video cards and would like to look in to upgrading to one. The problem is that Dell doesn't seem to sell them seperately to allow you to do your own upgrade and I don't want to spend the extra money to pay one of there technicians to do the upgrade for me. Does any one know where I could purchase a GeForce laptop video card that's compatable with a Dell?

certain notebook does not have removable video card. I think only the 8x00 series has them.. and these parts are only made for dell so it's pretty hard to get them aftermarket

I believe you may have been misinformed about the upgradeability of the Inspiron 7500's video card. AFAIK there's no good reason why it couldn't be done, but I don't believe there's a supported upgrade path. Its little ATI graphics subsystem card is tailor-made for the computer. Even if you can get a replacement GeForce or other video card with the same form factor you'd still have the issue of whether or not the new graphics subsystem would be recognized and used properly by the BIOS. The last BIOS revision released for that notebook is A14 (Dell's version number), and that was created quite some time before any of the GeForce portable cards I know of were designed.

Don't get me wrong. I'd be delighted to learn that I was wrong about this. I own an I7500 and support about a dozen others whose users would all love to experience a display with a bit more panache.

Have you tried looking at the DellTalk forum? It's not much of a forum because the interface is one of the dumbest I've ever seen, and its various functions (like search and even link color changing) are almost always broken, but there are a few people there who have hammered this topic to death without any resolution that I've ever seen reported. Maybe you can find someone who can help in that forum.

Well just for the record you can take out or upgrade the video card in the dell laptops. I've pulled my card out on many occasions. Simply involves a small screw driver. Remove the panel on the bottom and then remove the two holding screws and simply unplug it. As for after market parts...it sucks to hear that an upgrade may not be available. Sort of defeats the purpose of making the card removable other than for repair/replacement.

Why hasn't there been a standardization of laptop boards, power supply and cases? Any one know why laptops are so closed off and hard to work with?

standard ac adapters , cases and boards would limit manufacturers ability to actually make small laptops . if there was a standard case , all laptops would be dell inspiron 8000 size. which for a subnotebook user like me, would suck very much
