dell laptop problems

i bought a dell laptop from an auction. when i turned on the laptop it was password protected. Tried using typical passwords like "password". The auction didnt know the p/w (police auction). Called Dell and apparently i don't have "full" verification of a serial number or something even though i have all the receits. The bios is p/w protected. I tried bootdisk and when i tried to format it didn't let me format a network drive. The OS is windows NT. Do you know anyway that i can get into the computer. I can format thats no problem just so i can use the laptop.?

Hi, If you can't get into the BIOS Setup it's probably only a BIOS Password. Find the small CMOS battery. Take it out and leave it out 2-3 hours. The BIOS Setup should reset to Defaults and the Pass word should be gone. If that's not it you may have to reformat. Good Luck, Jim

unfortunately removing the cmos battery on that dell laptop will not acheive removing the password.
you really need the password or else you'll need a new motherboard!
