I am trying to cancel my order. But my Sales rep told me it was too late cause it was on production. But!! then I check today again, and the shipping date was delayed to Dec 27. Which is unacceptable because I wanted to take the laptop on vacation.

Dell sucks

<< well since the completecare does not apply to me in CA, then i m better off to drop that and get my money back..
so i can actually call up my rep and tell them to credit me back the completecare thingy ? wow
>>

People trying to modify their order because of the complete care deal should do that AFTER they recieve the item. Its just an add on type deal so they can just refund it to you. Its better than having your whole order cancelled.

Well, I got mine today, and I must say that I am quite impressed.
First Impression- The laptop seems to be well made and solid. I am not impressed with the looks of it, but I didn't buy it for the looks.
Software- I was surprised to find MS Word installed. I guess it comes with Works now, I don't think it used to. I am also happy that Dell did not put a lot of useless crap software on it like some other manufacturers do. OTOH I was dissapointed that the image viewer program and Musicmatch were only trial versions. If I had known that, I would have told them not to install them.
Screen- The screen looks great. I got the XGA and the SXGA would be better, but we have a Dell with SXGA at work that I compared with mine and the difference is not really noticable. I haven't tried any games yet so I don't know how it performs.

Overall dell put together a quality package. The carrying case is much higher quality than I expected it to be, and the only negative I noticed about it is that it is slightly larger than it has to be. Probably due to the fact that they use this case for the 8100 also.

Still debating whether to try to call up and change the three year warranty to one year.

I called today to check the status of the 2nd order and I find out that they shipped my first order yesterday. So I think I'll try to sell the first order one as the 2nd order I like better because it's beefier but $150 more. If I can't find a buyer, I'll return it with that 30 day warranty.

My friend got one of the 8100's a few months back when they had a promo like this... the laptop is sweet! The 3D graphics, definetely the system to go with. Back in the day, the only 3D game I could play during English speech class was Doom! Man, that had a lot of people looking at my system, and of course when the teacher would come by I would ALT-TAB to notepad, taking my notes... ;)

Hard to imagine these days, Geforce graphics - drool!

If you are thinking about the extended warranty, consider this:

VISA Gold Card automatically doubles the manufacturer's warranty. I bought my Inspiron 4100 last month for a great price . . . bought it with my VISA and voila . . . TWO year warranty automatically.

make sure that you called your CC to enable that warranty. I confirmed it with Visa and Blue (800-2253750 for blue):)

Could you explain what's involved in "confirming" the warranty please w/ an AmEx Blue card? Thanks!

I just talked with my VISA rep.

You have a choice. You may register your product with them (send them the receipt, invoice and warranty info) and they keep it for you. OR, you simply keep it yourself and if you need warranty service outside the original manufacturer's warranty but within VISA's doubled one, send the information to them at that time. It just takes a little longer the second way.

FYI,

I just priced out the same config I had at $1218 a week or so ago, and it's now $1267.

If you bump up to SXGA+ video, it goes up to $14xx.xx. So the deal is apparently still good! Well, $50 more and no free shipping at this time.

I received an order # e-mail today and it's not the price I had when I ordered it. I'm on the phone now waiting for support to try and get this straightened out. Just a warning... this was ordered clearly through Dell home and I shouldn't be charged tax (in California) yet they tacked on a $93.14. I just received an e-mail from one of the people and hung up on phone since they're acknowledging my e-mails and apparantly the guy reassigned my order for the Business division. They have to cancel it and put it in the Home division. I told her to go ahead as long as the price is the same or better from what I originally had it quoted at which was $1267.

I guess this is a heads up in case some people are getting shafted the same way so they can inadvertantly cancel your order.

Here's a shocker, I just received an e-mail through order watch for my Radeon 8500 that it shipped. Umm I received it like over two weeks ago. What good is that order watch??

what do you guys think about this deal:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=659937

it's the OD 20% off deal on the Toshiba Satellite 3005-S304 Notebook for basically $1600 - $320 (20% off) - $100 (rebate) + $100 tax = $1280

how does this compare to the dell 4100?

the differences between these 2 laptops:
video card: 16mb vs 32mb
rams: 256mb vs 128mb
dvd + cdrw vs dvd OR cdrw

I ordered the dell 4100 already, but am kinda considering returning the dell and getting this Toshiba notebook.
Does anyone know the quailty of these two manufacturers?

thanx

-J

Got my first order today which was the 866MHz with 10GB HD. It's still charging so I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Anyway, I was charged $1089 for that when it should've been $1099 so that was nice of them. :) So after that initial mixup of them putting it in the wrong ordering system and trying to charge me $1335.14 on the original order of $1267 and several e-mail later, I get a new e-mail now that they have a new setup and order # ready but my credit card didn't go through. I call my bank to find out why and it's because the $1335.14 (wrong order) is put on hold waiting authorization. I then find out the NEWEST order was for $1153 (woohoo) that's with 1GHz, 20GB HD and 59Whr battery. So they made good on that of getting it to a lower price or matching. So I dunno if he just overrode the amount but I'm getting it for almost $80 cheaper from my 2nd order and $64 more than first order and includes much better specs. Now I have to call their credit department tomorrow morning to make sure they take the $1335.14 off for authorization and put the $1153 on it instead.
